Bolder – a Micro-action Website that Challenges its Visitors
July 14th 2010 16:49
Bolder is an interesting website designed to inspire actions from its visitors that will benefit society. These are simple challenges known as micro-actions. Micro-actions are an inspiring concept. They are simply small things all of us can do that will benefit us in some way.
A challenge might be to buy a product from a locally owned business instead of a big box retailer. Perhaps the challenge will suggest you use a reusable bag next time you go to the grocery store.
Bolder posts a different challenge weekly. Some of the past challenges asked visitors to eat fruit that day. Their reward was Fuji Apples from Whole Foods of Palo Alto, that week’s sponsor. Another was from a Yogurt shop in San Francisco. Their challenge was if you got an acquaintance to workout you were rewarded with a buy-one-get-one yogurt.
When visitors complete their challenge, they sign in and record what they did. You can do so through Facebook Connect. There is normally some type of reward attached to it. Visitors can also vote on other people’s responses to determine who had the boldest action. I hope that Bolder will start issuing challenges that are suited to the mass market.
Another company who is trying to stimulate social good is SocialVibe. This group specializes in assisting businesses to collaborate with citizens to not only achieve social good but also stimulate their brand. It is a win-win concept.
Is Bolder the type of site you could see yourself participating in? Or does it seem too commercialized? Let us know your thoughts.
