Bogan Facials
July 21st 2010 00:51
Once a month, I get an email from a retailer of skincare products advertising their MONTHLY $38 FACIAL!!! Be quick to reserve your place, or you'll miss out!!! They're telling the truth; competition for slots is fierce. I always take the bait, though sometimes I'm not quick enough, do miss out, and gnash my teeth for the next week.
Of course, I prefer facials at my local salon, but as I'm living above my means in a pricey neighbourhood, the local salon's facials are also above my means. (Not that it stops me from leaving the salon $180 poorer 3 or 4 times a year.)
So, every other month I end up taking public transport to Sydney's inner west, putting on a gown, and having goop slathered on my face by a sixteen-year-old beauty student who recites a lecture about the magical properties of whichever brand they're promoting/pushing. Guaranteed, the junior-burger therapist will either (1) have long artificial French manicure nails (2) have coffee breath (3) not be able to pronounce "non-comedogenic" or "salicylic".
No doubt by next month, I'll have a (4) to add to the above list. Oh well, wanna-be ladies living in genteel poverty can't be too picky.
