Bodyguard first and second week Box-office reports.
Bodyguard RECORD BREAKING Weekend
Bodyguard has simply torn up the record books and smashed practically every opening record at every cinema it was released in. The holiday period and humungous releases has meant that it has smashed the first week record of Dabangg (81 cr nett) in just five days. Bodyguard managed to hit around 2800 screens on nearly 2000 theatres over the weekend when its release was the widest.
The film has collected another 17.5-18 crore nett on Sunday which has taken the five day extended weekend to somewhere between the 84-85 crore nett range as per early estimates.
The film help up supremely well at places over the five days while other were up and down depending on which day was a holiday. Overall the film is almost certain to emerge the biggest hit of 2011 beating the other Salman Khan release this year Ready.
Bodyguard Smashes All Records Bol Mummy Punjab Etc Very Poor
Bodyguard smashed all records at the box office by collecting 38.50 crore nett in just two days on Wednesday and Thursday. It took a phenomenal initial and beat all earlier records by a distance. But the public reports are not as strong as the initial so Three Idiots or even Dabangg type lifetime business is ruled out though it will still emerge a huge grosser and amongst the top five of all time thanks to a mammoth total in its extended five day weekend.
Bol took a very dull opening and its two day collections are just 12-15 lakhs, it has little to offer at the box office
Mummy Punjabi was also very dull with less than 10 lakhs in two days, again no chance at the box office.
That Girl In Yellow Boots opened to a dull 10-15% response and will struggle at the box office. Basically its a bad decision to come alongside a hurricane like Bodyguard for these films as in a normal weekend they would have found it difficult to find an audience and coming with Bodyguard makes it next to impossible to get an audience.
Aarakshan added around 3 crore nett in its third week to go to to 40.50 crore nett in three weeks. FLOP
New Releases Crushed Under Bodyguard Wave
There were four other films that were released with the Bodyguard and all were crushed as they never had a chance coming against such a biggie.
The Girl In Yellow Boots was the best of the lot as it grossed around 80-90 lakhs nett in three days but it is very poor collection.
Bol came next which also grossed around 80-90 lakhs nett but over five days. Mummy Punjabi was a washout with not even 25 lakhs nett over five days as was Bas Ek Tamana which had a very limited release.
These films would have not done well even if they there was no Bodyguard as content held very little appeal for the public but they would have had slightly better figures if they did not come up against Bodyguard

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan took a good opening of 80% at multiplexes all over. Business at single screen was lower at 50-55%. The film was very strong in the Delhi/NCR area even though heavy rain affected in some parts of Delhi NCR. The film should score well at the box office over the weekend as it has decent reports.
Bodyguard had a record breaking extendedn first week of around 110 crore nett. The film did start to drop of towards the end of the first week but it had already accumulated a mammoth total by then. The second week started on a slow note as there was a major new release like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan but it should pick up on Saturday and Sunday.
Bol was a poor fare grossing around 1.50 crore nett over its extended nine day week.
Bol was a poor fare grossing around 1.50 crore nett over its extended nine day week.
That Girl In Yellow Boots was also poor with around 1.50 crore nett in its first week.
Bodyguard Has Huge Extended Weekend of $5.25 Million In Overseas
Bodyguard has grossed a huge $5.25 million (24 croore) in the International markets in its extended weekend which was six days at places. The film was released on 320 prints. This figure is similar to the record opening of My Name Is Khan but that film opened on a regular three day weekend. The three day weekend of Bodyguard is around $3.50 million and even that is a massive opening. The figures from major markets are as follows.
United Kingdom -£840,000 (six days)
North America - $1,360,000 (four days)
UAE - $1,700,000 (six days)

Rivaaz opened to very dull houses at 0-5% and has little chance at the ticket counters.
Mere Brother Ki Dulhan had a good first week of around 37.50 crore nett. The film is also steady on its 8th day and should do 60 crore nett lifetime business. It fhas ared best in the Delhi/UP and East Punjab.
Bodyguard had a 21 crore nett second week and the two week total stands at 130.50 crore nett. The film held up best in Rajasthan. BLOCKBUSTER

The film has now grossed nearly 130 crore nett after two weeks. The business in week two was more steadier at single screens as multiplexes saw a huge drop in the shows they were screening compared to week one.
The postponement of Mausam should enable Bodyguard to cross the lifetime net business of Dabangg as the third weekend will be stronger now. If Mausam had releases the film would have been looking at a 3.25-3.50 crore nett third weekend but now it can come in above 5 crore nett.
