Back to 911 - Answers

June 10th 2009 01:03
I lived in NY and experienced the bulk of 911 from a personal level. I knew people that lost people close to them. I knew many firemen, and while it wasn't any best friends, it was people I had seen or met. I spent that day trying to figure out how our family would escape what seemed like impending doom in those first few hours.

After the initial shock came the anger. I have always said, if a truck was driving around that day saying lets go get whoever did this I would not have hesitated to jump on. For 8 years I supported our president and believed that he kept us safe. There were things that didn't sit 100% right at times, but I believed what I was told. It seemed wrong to even consider anything other than what we were told for fear of being unpatriotic. This for a person like me who is at all times wearing or near something that is red, white and blue, is a strong statement.

I have had people say to me here and there over the years all the little things that I am sure some of you have heard. The squibs, WTC 7, The speed of the buildings collapses. I always had an answer. My theory, being in construction for over 30 years was always the weight and momentum. Gravity and momentum are powerful forces. So I felt, move along here nothing more to see.

Recently I was watching a show about a lot of the rescue workers who are no getting sick and dying. I particularily remember Christine Todd Whitman at a press conference way back then saying the air is fine to breathe, according to the EPA. I rtemember telling some of my friends, make sure your wearing masks. Who knows what is in that dust. There was asbestos in those buildings if nothing else.

I started doing a little research, as I always do with anything I have questions about. I am kind of a research nut. Before you know it I am starting to have questions about a lot of things. When things start to defy logic, you have to ask questions. WTC building 7 is the one that disturbs me most. It was a 47 story very long rectangular building. The official explanation says it was brought down by fire and damage done from the collapse of the North Tower. If the building had come down in half or some percentage leaving some standing that would make sense. If it had collapsed sideways or in one direction or another, that would make sense. The problem is it basically fell into it's footprint.

I am not a scientist and I am not an engineer, but I know some things and have common sense. Fire does not burn syetrically, falling building parts don't take out precise parts of a building in a pattern. I have watched that building collapse 100 times if not 500. How in the world did it fall perfectly all at the same time? In all these buildings the fire was stated as the primary cause of collapse. What I saw in all 3 buildings was smoldering fires. Granted very big smoldering fires but not raging infernos.

There is so much more that raises questions. The plane in the pentagon and the flight 93 in PA both have some issues. I am not jumping onboard any conspiracy boats just yet, but I do have questions. If you had any nagging doubts about 911 just do a few searches. There is an awful lot of info on both sides of the issue. Interesting reading if nothing else.

Sonia Sotomayor: Ready for this?

May 27th 2009 03:34
President Obama has nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. I don't know about you, but when a Supreme Court justice is being replaced, I get worried about the Constitution. Ever notice that lady justice is usually depicted wearing a blindfold? It is with good reason, judges are supposed to make rulings based on the law and not be predjudiced by what they see. Sotomayor served from 1980 to 1992 as a Board of Directors member of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. This organization promotes amnesty and expanded rights for illegal aliens living in the United States; promotes hiring minority job applicants regardless of test scores and they seek to promote Spanish as an alternative to English.

One case she presided over is a good indicator of what we are in store for. In 2003 Frank Ricci and 17 of his fellow firefighters took a test for promotion in the New Haven CT. fire department. What probably was the catalyst to bring this before a court was the fact that Ricci, who apparently had some learning disabilities worked extremely hard to pass the test. He purchased study materials and studied hours every day. He had the highest score and should have earned the promotion. When it was determined that blacks had performed poorly the New haven department handed out no promotions that year.

The firefighters case was upheld, not once but twice with Judge Sotomayor as one of the judges who voted to support the New Haven decision. This is a clear case of reverse discrimination, or in my eyes just plain discrimination. Think about it, these 17 men worked hard to earn a position, do what is asked of them, excel at their jobs and then get knocked down because it may not be fair to some people who are obviously less qualified.

Where are we heading in this country. Let's put a different spin on this to make it a little more real life. If you are getting on a plane tomorrow to fly cross country, who do you want flying the plane? The pilot who scored the highest and has the experience or the pilot who got the position because of the color of his skin even if he was chosen over 25 better pilots. If you need life saving surgery, the same applies. Is this what we want. Sub-standard people placed in important positions? It completely slaps common sense in the face.

Equality is what was always supposed to be the goal of all civil rights movements. Equality is what our constitution espouses. What that means is we are all supposed to play on a level playing field. That's all, nothing more. What so many of these progressive judges believe is that they need to make the playing field unlevel so it favors one segment of society over another, because they feel that this will make it right.

Interesting Times

May 26th 2009 03:23
Good or bad, like it or not, you have to admit, these are interesting times we are living in. I have used the analogy that we are teetering over the edge of a cliff for sometime now. I do still feel that way, but for may more reasons it seems. The economy has crashed in a pretty dramtic fashion, but it now appears that is only one part of a much larger picture.

At the same time we have a war being fought on 2 fronts. There are now some serious developments in both the middle east and Asia. North Korea testing an atomic bomb as well as a short range missle yesterday has to raise serious concerns. For the US right now we don't have the kind of leverage we once did. We are so far in debt with countries like China that it becomes almost impossible to strong arm them into supporting us.

At the same time we have Iran flexing it's muscles by sending 6 warships into international waters to show it can defend and protect the country. While all this is going on, have no fear, the UN is poised to take action. That's a laugh. Can someone tell me when the last time was when the UN actually did anything productive. Perhaps the UN should be hosted in another country. I am quite sure they would thoroughly enjoy spending their time in one of the many dictorial countries they seem to embrace.

Imagine a plant that can grow healthy with no pesticides. A plant that can be used to make paper that lasts longer than the paper we use now and won't yellow. A plant that can provide clothes so strong you could pass them down to your grandchildren. Think about it, a plant that can provide all the following: plastics, ethanol, cloth, paper, high fiber food, many medicines including anti-inflammatory medicines and much more.

This really is an amazing discovery. This plant, if well managed could by itself energize our failing economy and provide millions of new jobs and ground breaking industries. If all this is not enough, it has amazing "Green" attributes. Most products created with it are biodegradable, even plastics. The pulp from 1 acre would take 4 acres of timber to create and is annually renewable where as timber needs 20 years or more to regrow. It requires non toxic methods to refine and can reduce CO2 emmisions related to pulp production dramatically. It has been said that this plant could be used to produce about 25,000 products

Something Stinks

May 17th 2009 22:59
I'd like to know if anyone else out there is taking notice of something. Seems pretty fishy to me. When this whole swine flu thing started, oh sorry H1N1, wouldn't want to offend any pigs, It was under 200 cases and the media hype was huge. Now there are about 9000 cases worldwide and almost 5000 in the US alone, there is almost no mention of it. In a 24 hour period a day ago, there were 1000 new cases.

If there was something big in the news to overshadow this it wouldn't seem strange, but frankly there are no big news stories and let's face it, when does the news media ever pass up a chance to sensationalize a story. At the start of this they claimed they were worried because it could reach pandemic levels. The reason they worry about things like this is because for every one case there are at least 10 possible cases behind it if not more. Let's say a flu has an incubation period of 7-10 days before it shows. In that period of time a single person can affect 10, 20 or 100 people depending on what they do in the course of a day. If they ride mass transit or get on an airplane, the numbers could be quite large. Schools are also a big problem, as we see in NYC right now

Pelosi and Pinnocio

May 15th 2009 03:12
Every once in a while We The People Peons get the priveledge of watching Royalty squirm. Today was one of those days. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi got a taste of her own medicine. It seems that she was well aware that torture, oh sorry, enhanced interrogation was going on when she went before the public saying she had absolutely no knowledge of it.

Once again we see an arrogant politician deny any wrongdoing in spite of facts to the contrary. I have always believed, and I live my life this way, that the measure of a man or woman is not in the mistakes they make. Their true measure is how they handle the aftermath. A person can take full responsibility and rectify the problem or they can blame everyone and everything around them and become the victim

News of the day

May 13th 2009 02:07
Today was a little more disturbing than most, with the early news of the day starting out with 5 soldiers killed by a fellow soldier. My heart goes out to all the families of those soldiers as well as all our fallen heroes. I don't know what the final story will bare out but on the surface it appears to be a good soldier pushed over the edge.

In war soldiers are placed in positions where monumental choices have to be made. Most of us in the course of life, will never come close to making choices like these. Even just the essence of basic military duty places a huge emotional stress on an individual. Things like being away from family and friends for extended periods. Relationships become nothing more than emails, letters and a phone call. An untold number of soldiers see a relationship end while overseas. That stress along with combat situations is more than most can endure

Begging For It

May 11th 2009 01:07
Benjamin Franklin said "Those that give up essential liberty to obtain a little safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." One little sentence that is so profound. I want you to think about something, because we tend to go through the drudgery of surving but forget some basic facts. Our liberties are slowly being taken away a step at a time. They aren't being taken awy by force however, we are asking for them to be taken away.

We aren't just asking for them to be taken away, we are begging. How can that be your wondering. Well let me give you some examples. Let's take smoking, maybe not the best example but it fits none the less. If 25 years ago a bill came up to ban smoking in public places, it never would have passed. Not because smoking is bad or for health reasons. It wouldn't have passed because it would have been unconstitutional. But if it is demonized enough and then throw in the second hand smoke issue to garner more support, presto a created frenzy to stop evil tobacco

What's Missing

May 10th 2009 00:49
Something occured to me earlier today. I browse different sites for news and happenings on different websites. Wimp.com is one of them, they have some interesting videos. One in particular brought me back to my childhood. It was a video of the old Abbot and Costello routine "Who's on first". Now if you have seen it, well I needn't say more, but if you have not, take a few minutes and google it. It is just good old fashion funny and it truly is timeless.

That isn't my little epiphany but it led to it. I showed my son and he really enjoyed it. When my wife arrived home that evening we all watched it again. I saw another Abbot and Costello video and started looking at some others. One was the old show, 1956 to be exact, "This is Your Life" Lou Costello. We ended up watching it and it was really good, even with the poor video quality and sound

Recovery or an Illusion

May 9th 2009 01:21
I don't want to be doom and gloom but I always shoot straight. Does anyone else get the feeling we are once again being treated as an audience in a magic show? Smoke and mirrors. A report is released today touting we "only" had 539,000 job losses when the so called experts wer expecting over 600,000. Of course the unemployment rate hit 8.9%, worst since 1983. Already words like recovery and the bottom has been reached are being thrown around. Even the term bull market is being used.

Now look I am just a working guy but using the common sense God gave me I am going to tell you what I think. This isn't the bottom, but if they suceed and pull people back into the market the real crash will be coming. Whatever wealth people have left will be destroyed and then the real trouble begins. What they aren't saying is a whole mass of mortgages that were purchased 3 years ago are going to mature to the higher rate. Time to pay the piper. People who are already upside down in their mortgages are going to be sending keys back
