Blog Tipping: To click or not to click.. that is the question
June 14th 2007 05:31
An observation on Blogging eitquette.. and a lesson in Karma, co-incidence and sense
Do you tip?.. To click or not to click that is the question.
Up until recently I was a very determined non-clicker of all Ads, I was suspicious that every Ad I clicked would lead to some rogue web site that would deposit a trojan on my computer and organised crime in Russia or some obscure county ending in via would steal my identity and I would be inadvertently aiding and abetting global terrorism.....
Then I began to realise - thanks to a few Orble posts- the lack of money in Blogging compared to the effort writers put in; I became aware of all the poor bloggers out there who write their hearts out & need me to click on their Ads so they can make a living as they can't even promote their sites to friends in fear of disturbing the adsense gods.. I saw the light. SO i have begun what I consider tipping. If I like a story and I get a lot out of it I click on the Ads on their site to thank them for their work. I also noticed that most of the articles I like generally have Ads that are of a Topic of interest to me and clicking can take me on adventures I never imagined.-
For example today I clicked on a link and I ended up finding a Website that is very useful for my Business...Karma perhaps, co-incidence likely or it just plain makes sense.. .. the words link to the topics, you read the topics you are interested in so the Ads will take you to interesting places..simple....I don't know how much the new site I found will help my business in dollar terms but it will save me a lot of time and time is money.
I have seen the light; clicking is good for all, to click that is the answer..
PS I am aware that I am probably not the first person to think of this or write about it - & this is probably common Blogging etiquette that I was unaware of until recently- I just want to share the experience.

Great Post!
I never realised that about the ads on others sites... I know we cannot click our own... which is daft too, because as you say, sometimes the subject matter is so relevant that I am interested, myself... but I now understand that that is taboo and I can be thrown off the Adsense wagon for doing it...really Adsense-officer, I wasn't aware!
I am always voting on stories I read, but not always commenting because of time restrictions, but now I will click a few ads too ...and comment even less perhaps, to balance the time out...trouble is, people don't realise you're there without a comment too...so I'm clicking on ads that relate to manufacturing more time...any articles within that realm, will not only get my ad click and my vote ... but also a comment as well *chuckling*
thanks for the heads up!

I am actually thinking of writing an article this week on why there is so little money in writing. Graphic artists and Web Designers are making a killing out of the net, words are what holds it all together at the end of the day so why are the creators of the content not getting rewarded.
