Big Bad Darell
September 15th 2006 06:58
Back in the 90’s when Darell Hair called Muralithiran for ‘chucking’ as it’s been named since. Cricket lovers were bemused and a little disheartened because Darrell could have ended the career of one the greatest finger spinners the world has ever seen. ‘Murali’ is now an exceptional bowler with a less than untarnished reputation.
Well big bad Darell is back in a big way and continues to wither in a controversial twist. In a recent test match his treatment of a Pakistan side led by Inzamam Ul Haq was deplorable. Once more an International cricket side was led off by its captain due to a conscious decision made by Hair. Let’s put the ball tampering incident to a side and let’s get to the absurd letter Hair wrote to the ICC demanding $500 thousand dollars. Oh no Darryl what have you done this time??
I for one think this sort behaviour in cricket is an outrage from a playing perspective let alone from an umpire. Has he lost his marbles?? Darell happens to represent the umpiring fraternity of Australia and therefore he represents Australian cricket. Can he be expected to objectively umpire another cricket match considering his reputation?? I assume not but the ICC and the Australian Cricket Board have been appointed to make such decisions and I assume they’ve placed a lot of thought into this one. Here, here Darell what have you install for us next…
