Review of the Q1 - Queensland

March 17th 2008 01:29
If any of you are familiar with the sci-fi film “Gattaca” then you will have the same impressions I did when I first stepped through the crystal clear glass doors of the tallest residential tower in the world-being the Q1 found where else- but on the Gold Coast.
Its floor to ceiling lack of colour and metallic silver decor fitted out this massive skyscraper. I couldn’t say its ambience was very welcoming as I felt a sense of sterility due to the perfect positions of the staff and 2 red couches poised elegantly in the foyer adding the only splash of colour. The experience of staying in these fully furbished apartments was however magnificent with stunning views, comfortable living areas and friendly staff who ensured your stay was an enjoyable one.

After stepping into the marble lift and travelling up to 70 floors in the blink of an eye you realise this stay is not an ordinary one. Firstly you would not be waiting 5 minutes for the lift to travel between floors as it only takes a couple of seconds. Using your electronic swipe card allowed you to enter your room and proved this complex was one of style and class as well as being very technologically advanced. Opening the door presented a spacious living area with kitchen and t.v. area as well as 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a laundry area and of course the stunning enclosed white balcony which provided the views of the beach and Nerang River. This fully serviced apartment was also fitted with stylish appliances including 2 dish washers and the regular devices in a kitchen which were designed to make your stay more pleasant.

This tremendous structure also provided a means of entertainment fit for a king. Not only did it grant visitors and residents of the Gold Coast the opportunity of travelling up 230m to the observation deck to observe the panoramic views but there was also a restaurant for the patrons’ convenience. This place of residence was also equipped with a heated lap pool, steam room, spas and 2 large lagoon pools surrounded by an abundance of deck chairs and a patch of sand for those of you who wish to have the beach at their feet. There was also the obligatory health spa retreat for all the ladies out there who need pampering, The Q1 Resort also has plans for a wide range of shops placed selectively around the entrance which are due to open mid 2006.

Talk about prime location. The Q1 cannot be any more conveniently located. It is literally a hop, skip and a jump away from the golden sands which make up the Surfers Paradise beaches and just as the name suggests it truly is paradise. It is also a less than 10 minute stroll to the world-renowned Cavill Avenue which provides the never ending strips of cafe’s, bars and pubs providing entertainment to locals and also to the travellers. The avenue is also home to an abundance of shops open till late every night of the week. There is constant entertainment including bands and local comedy acts providing enjoyment to all families allowing the atmosphere to be quite relaxed.

If you are planning a weekend escape or extended holiday away, the Q1 resort would accommodate you and your family in the best possible way. Where else would you find the ultimate relaxing holiday? Answer: Queensland - which houses the most luxurious and gigantic 5 star resort you will never want to leave.

Survival guide to VCE

March 17th 2008 01:26
Eventually the time will come where your brain will go into overdrive, sweaty palms become apparent and your life is consumed of reading black and white notes to ensure you achieve the best you can for your final year exams – but it’s not all bad news.

It is only after completing year 12 that you realise although school is extremely important, once you step outside that square you notice a much bigger world. For the period of one year leading up to your final year exams, which for some people will determine their future, you must remember to keep sane but also try your absolute best because at the end of it all it is your hard work which determines that 4 digit figure – the enter score.

3 ways to stay sane
* Listen to your mind and body when they tell you they need a rest.
*Try to not unleash all you anger upon your family as they are on your side and only trying to help you in anyway they can.
*Make sure you eat and on breaks have a snack as this improves concentration and won’t let your body think your on a hunger strike.

3 ways to keep your mind happy
*Do not read for 12 hours straight!!! Take breaks
*Make sure you hit the sack at normal hours. Do not try and attempt to be an owl and study at night as you will crash during the day. 8 hours sleep is beneficial
*If you have a spare 5 minutes do a quick meditation session – you will feel like a new woman

3 ways to have fun when you are quietly stressing out
* Go to that party you have been hanging out to go to, even if it is for a little bit – remember people only turn 18 once.
*If need be, devour a tub of ice-cream with your girlfriends.
*At least try and have fun and try really hard to not think about school! You can start stressing again on Monday

3 ways to keep your body happy
*Go for a quick walk around the backyard – not only will your thighs thankyou but so will your head.
*Have that piece of chocolate cake when you’re not feeling the best – diets do not exist during year 12 or exam time!
*Before your exam period starts – if time permits have a 20 minute massage...ahh bliss it will relax you.

3 ways to ensure you do your best when it counts
*Do not get to the exam an hour early – it will scare you more!!! 20 minutes before is a good time Trust me...
*In reading time don’t let your eyes dart around the room as you are in a state of panic –just focus on your own paper.
*Seriously, remember to breathe during the exam – your brain needs as much oxygen as physically possible.

3 ways to prepare yourself for the following year
*I realise it’s tough but really try and have some idea what you would like to do with your life after school.
*Don’t forget to fill out your VTAC applications before September.
* Don’t think about it until you have completed this year!!!

Well guys, goodluck if you are completing year 12 this year and remember it is not the end of the world if you do not perform as well as you could have as this is the result of nerves – something humans cannot control. Go in there, give it your best shot and don’t forget to have fun as your last year of high school should be a memorable one!

Deal with your panic on a plane

March 17th 2008 01:22
So not everyone is going to be a member of the ‘Mile High Club’ however, this should not deter you from experiencing the safest mode of transportation being, the airplane. Statistically, most planes which leave one city anywhere in the world at any one time always kiss the ground and land in another city.
How do you deal with a tight environment?
What about the dreaded take off and landing which causes your ears to undoubtedly pop and your stomach to drop as quick as the “giant drop”?
We can’t forget those with a fear of heights or who just do not like being enclosed in such small spaces surrounded by random people... Well...do not fear – there are solutions...

Dealing with small areas and feeling like you have been crammed in like cattle may not be the most appealing image in your head when your ticket states economy class but it is not that bad. Think about it for a second....why not take this opportunity to increase your networking skills. Have a chat with your neighbor to take your mind off the journey and you may even discover you are somehow related – it’s called the 6 degrees of separation. An easy escape, should conversation be lacking would be to get up and take a walk around the plane for a period of time. Requesting an aisle seat at check-in allows you to stretch out your legs and it would also be advantageous being seated in this pole position as you would avoid climbing over strangers when you need to make a quick escape. The other option is; if you don’t like flying being seated so close to others, earn some cash and go business (despite this not being very cost efficient). Do not panic if you are feeling tense before the journey as surely there is one little person crying in the corner for fear of flying. The easier you can get out of your seat the more relaxed you will feel after a nice big stretch!

Bring a hanky drenched in the scent of eucalyptus…What will this solve you ask? Well, apart from chewing gum as fast as you can and opening your mouth as wide as is humanely possible for take-off and landing you should also discretely sniff your hanky with a refreshing eucalyptus scent. It smells great and ensures all the connections between your nose, ears and mouth are wide open so you can breathe easy and not worry about your ears popping. This way, once you get off the plane you will not feel you have lost the vital sense of hearing. Meanwhile, do not panic if you get off the plane and seem to not hear a thing. Easy solutions include either to learn to lip-read (despite it being challenging it may assist you one day) or simply wait a few hours and you will be as good as new.

So you are panicking about the whole flying over water issue...well again, easily solved. You either do not fly at all, but we are not in the Stone Ages…….or simply do not look down! Ensure you have an aisle seat and gracefully give up your window seat to another passenger and you will be eternally thanked. Another solution is bringing a nice fuzzy pair of eye covers with the lovely elastic that secures around your head. You could imagine you are on a deserted island and people are bringing you ‘pina coladas’-I could go for that! This way you can’t see all the people around or the ground....not scary anymore...is it! Imagination is the key
