Kicking things off...

Here goes my inaugural post. Perhaps it helps to know a few things about me. I am a freelance writer. I have had several articles published at www.boxoffice.com, and I have a weekly entertainment and movie review column that runs on Fridays in the Joplin Globe (www.joplinglobe.com/enjoy). I worked in the movie theater industry for over a decade, and because of this I've been exposed to the best and worst that Hollywood has to offer. Aside from watching the unwatchable for the movie reviews, I tend to try to limit the garbage intake in my free time. While there's nothing wrong with popcorn entertainment, there is something wrong with bad popcorn entertainment. And, on occasion it is nice to see something that might cause me to think, just to cleanse the palate a little. As a writer, I am very much in the camp that the script makes the movie, and that throwing large volumes of special effects or dropping big name actors into an innocuous role will not save a film if it is starting off on a shaky foundation to begin with. I look forward to posting thoughts, opinions, and reviews here, and hope to hear a lot of feedback as the blog goes along. If you agree, disagree or are indifferent, I want to hear about it.
