Times Are Changing (My Grandfather)

: Family Humor
This was so funny to me I just have to share it. About 10yrs ago my grandfather was talking to me about his feelings of how this generation does not make any sense, he is always saying things that make me laugh. Well you see, he went to the furniture store to buy a new bed he said that he looked at several different ones and decided to get this nice light oak queen size bed. Well once he paid for the bed he noticed that all that was loaded into the truck were the headboard, footboard and the mattress with boxsprings. So he walked back into the store and asked the clerk where the bed frame was and the clerk looked at him and said. "I am sorry Sir, the frames are not sold with the bed, that will be extra." Now,you just have to know my grandfather to understand this situation. See, to him this sounded rediculious, he looked over at my granny and looked back at the clerk and said "Could I please speak with the manager."

The manager came to the front of the store and said. "Sir, what seems to be the problem?" My grandfather says, well for starters this generation of people around me is the problem, "what is wrong with you people he asked?" The manager said, Sir. What do you mean? My grandfather says, "I have walked around this store, spoke with your salesman and I decided on getting a bed and they load it in the truck and I notice that there is no bed frame for me to put the bed on. Now I am being told that it is not sold with the bed, I am being told that I have to pay extra." He told the manager that it did not make any sense to sell a bed with no frame and that he has never heard of such a thing.

The manager said well that is just the way it is. Would you like to get it or not? My grandfather looked at him and said, Listen! You mean, to tell me "The frame" does not come with the bed?? How would you like it if you went to buy a car and you picked out the niccest looking car on the lot, you test drive it and it runs so smoothe, she shines more than anyother car on the lot, and you have signed all the paper work on her and you are ready to pay for her. Now you go to the parking lot, ready to drive her home and you notice they got her sitting up on cement blocks with no wheels on her. Would you not decide that you want to speak to someone about that because, it just don't seem right to sell you a car with no wheels now does it?

Then you speak with the manager and say that you went out to the parking lot.. ready to take your car home and you noticed the wheels have been taken off and want to know how you are going to get it home and the manager looks at you and says "you must buy the wheels seperate" how would you feel? Would that make any sense to you, to have a car with no wheels? Now! Is this going to be the way it is or do I get my frames? Needless to say, he got his frames free of charge. I guess if you put it like that it really does not make much sense does it?...My grandfather. You just gotta love that man, he is something!

Young Love

Chapter One

It was September of 1989 in Greensboro North Carolina . I was fifteen getting ready to turn sixteen and Angel and I were headed to the City Fair it comes around every year in September, many kids our age looked forward to this because there is not much else to do in this little city other than hang at the mall or cruise the strip. I remember meeting up with some friends and of course they brought more of their friends at the age of 15 I was not thinking about meeting a "boyfriend" besides, I liked having many friends that were boys without having the whole "relationship" part to it. Angel who was my BFF at the time did have a boyfriend his name was Billy.

We were having a great time. Billy introduced me to one of his friends his name was Will. I of course was not interested in him at all, he had been drinking and his clothes were covered in blood, he could barely stand up straight and I walked over to Angel and whispered to her that I had to get rid of this guy he was asking me for my phone number over and over. I was not mean to him but I did ask him why he had blood all over his clothes, he lifted up his hand to show me that he cut his hand by punching someone's windsheild out in the parking lot for no other reason except "that he could."

We really have a winner here I thought to myself . By the end of the night I was so ready to leave. I never gave Will my phone number but he did not give up he was still asking me as my mother was pulling up to come get us from the fair. It's funny when Angel and I got into the car I looked at her and said "why are the losers always attracted to me" we just laughed it off and I never really thought back on that night.

Well the weekend is over now back to reality time to start back the school week. I loved highschool I had big dreams. I wanted to move to New York and get out of this small town. I loved to write, plays, poems, songs, it did not matter. I just have always had a passion to write about anything and everything, I guess is was just a way to express myself since I was kind of a quiet type.

This month has really went back quick, time for Halloween. Now that I have turned sixteen a couple of weeks ago I had made up my mind that I was grown and to old to go trick or treating so I decided to wear my prom dress and crown and pass candy out this year to all of the younger kids, I know what you might be thinking (Why not write about my big sweet sixteen birthday bash) Truth is. I did not have one and even if I wanted one my family could not afford it anyway. I could dream about the one that I would have had though if we did have the money. Tune in for more of this story I will be writing everyday, I am sure that most teenage girls and women will be able to relate to it more. I will see you tomorrow..remember to love as much as you can, and laugh as much as possible, cherrish those you love and try not to regret your mistakes...it has made you who you are and we are all God's children
