Thoughts About Life - by bwynn.squarespace.com

Being Lonely and Being Alone

April 2nd 2007 03:21

Some of my friends are confused about the difference between being lonely and being alone. Being lonely is more like you have lots of toys but you just don’t enjoy them. On the other hand, being alone is when you don’t have any toys at all. Does not matter which category you belong to, but the bottom line is the most important thing is having the lifestyle that makes you happy – the value of the time that you want to spend.

Having many friends in your life does not make you less lonely. On contrary, sometimes, you only need one person to fulfill all your needs. Have you ever tried going out with many friends, the evening seemed crowded with all the people that you think you like, but you still felt the emptiness inside. And when the party was over, you still would come back to your lonely nest, take a shower, go to bed, and get ready for another day.

Perhaps, you only need one particular significant other; someone that you have been looking for to see after a long day of work. With whom you rather spend a quiet and meaningful evening. You don’t have to impress or dazzle this person as you try to do with your friends or your co-workers. You just want to be your real-self.

Solitude is hard to live with for some, but by getting anyone from the bar, or any other convenient occasion to be with because you are alone and lonely, is a big mistake. Sometimes, due to desperation or fear of being alone, you might be attracted to many people with bad personality traits.

I have never been anti-social in my whole life. However, I really enjoy my solitude without feeling lonely. The free time allows me to read a good book, watch an interesting movie, write a good article, and most of all to do some deep thinking.

Yes, there is a distinct difference....sometimes feeling lonely when with someone is the saddest thing....
