achieving a paler complexion
January 24th 2008 08:02
I was born pale, my skin is so fair that the sun pretty much reflects off my body and causes passers-by to be blinded by the glare. I would love nothing more then to have darker skin, olive coloured like Natalie Portman or rich and black like Halle Berry. On the other hand, I find myself the envy of others, who would love nothing more then to have soft, white skin; it seems whatever we have, we always want something different. The unfair thing is, fair skinned people can get spray tans if they feel like something different, if you have a darker skin tone there's not much you can do to go lighter. There are some cosmetic products on the market that claim to be able to lighten the skin tone, however they are generally expensive and can often take a long time to notice results (if there are any results at all!!). The good bit of advice is, of course, to keep out of the sun and always wear sunscreen outside, which isn't very helpful to some people I know.
If your game, you can try using a foundation colour one or two shades lighter then your natural tone, however you must make sure that it is blended perfectly onto your ears and neck, or it won't look quite right. Use paler colours on your eyelids, pastels and creamy colours, and a shimmery blush in a soft hue, pale lips. Experiment untill you find what works best for you, everyone's makeup style is different. Make an appointment at your local hairdresser, they may be able to pull a few tricks, add a few highlights, change the colour, which could help your complexion to appear softer (do this before you buy more makeup, or you will have to buy more makeup to suit your new hairstyle).
Or instead of aiming for a paler complexion, try instead for an even skintone. Use a facial scrub once or twice a week to clear away the dead skin cells, or utilise a product that contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids. Either of these can atleast keep skin looking fresh, and soften the effects of any pigmentation, prevent acne and heal acne scarring. I'm sorry to those looking for a better answer, but the best answer of all is learn to be happy with who you are.
