Beagles and Kids, a good combination?
A friend of ours forwarded an email of another of her friends selling her beagle's puppies.
I've been very interested in getting a puppy for our soon to be 4 year old son. Unfortunately, when we were financially ready, one of our older retrievers died of Distemper and the Vets recommended to wait half a year or so before we buy a new one.
The email came on a very appropriate time because the kiddo's turning 4 soon and I've been looking for a not so big dog that could be good with kids. I also saw a beagle at a park one time and saw that they're actually cute and may be good for my son.
I've been reading online and they all say beagles are good family pets and good with kids.
My concern is that a lot of the information I've read mentioned that beagles are not too obedient because they were used as hunting dogs so they follow their noses more than anything else. They also have a tendency to wander off at the smell of a game (as in something to hunt).
I'm also not sure how they can be inside the house because I've been wanting a dog that I can let inside the house. Retrievers were just too big so they have a whole garden fenced for them
Anyone there have beagles? Can you help me a bit with more information about beagles and kids? At least house training them?
