Battlefield 2142 - by Sean M. Malacina

The Commander role is one of the best roles to play as, not only because you rank faster the better you are, but because victory or defeat rests in your hands. It is quite simple, the better you are, the better the points.

Being a Commander is not always easy, especially if you do not have a mic. As in the previous post that talked about being a good squad leader, I continue to stress the importance of a microphone. However, that post covered orders and requests to the commander, I did not go into detail on the various abilities that the Commander has access to.

However, let me first explain the Commander Screen, which is seen by pressing "Caps Lock" or what ever key is designated. Also known as the Squad Screen.

This is part 1 of a multi post that I will create in the future, this covers the Commander Screen and the various mini menus that are located in the screen.

Here is a picture of the Commander Screen:
Commander Screen

The numbers are as follows:
1: Squads Tab, click SQUADS to minimize.
2: The Squads, orders are sent to highlighted Squad(s).
3: Dead soldier icon.
4: Squad leaders and squad members/unsquaded troops. If they are white them their squad is highlighted, also shows the direction they are facing.
5: Control Units for commander abilities, if they are destroyed the respective ability(ies) will become unusable. Supply Drop ability cannot be destroyed, it has no Control Unit.
6: Command posts, ones that are the opposite of your team's color are enemy controlled.
7: Active Orders, shown by the icon and line that shows what squad is working on that order.
8: The mini command menu, accessed by right clicking. It has all the abilities except Sat-Track. From the top down - Zoom: zooms in. Spotted: enemy units in the cursor are "spotted" and seen by squad leaders and members. (Skip next 4, they are covered later) "Attack:" a object sensitive order, basically like a squad leader order, it changes depending on what is selected, in this case, an enemy command post.
9: The minimap, Displays squad leader routes, I usually minimize it. Click MINIMAP to minimize.
10: Immediate info area, displays bonuses (such as the commander bonus) and things like teamkill warnings and kills.
11: All abilities tab, (covered later), click ASSISTENCE to minimize.
12: Resign button, click to quit being commander.
13: Speech commands and talking area, pretty much the same as the one seen in the upper left corner when fighting, but it is relocated.
14: Shows the squad leader's class and all of the squad member's classes. The first box is the squad leader's followed by the members.
15: Squad Radio, right click this to communicate some speech to squad leaders, such include commending, rebuking, and informing squad leaders that a UAV, or orbital is available. More exist, but we aren't there yet!
16: Shows what the squad leader's current objective is, in this case it is Attack, Attack, Defend.

Here is a picture of the Squad Leader Radio:
The Options you can select are pretty self-explanatory

My Talk on Hacks and Hackers.

June 2nd 2009 17:48
If you have ever played Battlefield 2142 for extended periods of time, you might have noticed players with an unnatural amount of kills, or an extremely rapid number of kills from something like a sniper.

Chances are...These players are hacking.
Chances are...These players are using some kind of ILLEGAL program created by a third party that alters the game in some way.

Chances are...Nothing can be done.

If you ever encounter a hacker, I recommend you leave the server, they will just ruin the game for you.
When I said nothing can be done, I really meant it.

Hacking companies have literally made them untouchable by any law.

Here is a quote from the "FPSCheats UNDERGROUND Forums - Registration Agreement Terms" found at "FPSCheats.com." This site is known to host hacking programs for multiple games.
:
"Please also note, if you are part of any organazation, group, or employee of a company, or in any way related to: game development, anti cheating, goverment of any nationality or any other party which might have a intrest in using the info contained within against BF2142leet or any other administrator, then you are herby forbidden from purchasing any access, and you are requested to leave as the disclaimer demands when you registered."
You might be wondering why I quoted this, but you will see further down. You see, they do not want people that are affiliated with an anti-cheating coperation or the government, which might intrude upon this website.

Here is another quote from the SAME form:
:
"If you are from PunkBuster, CSHP, UTPure, CheatingDeath, CS-Guard, Paladin, CAC, CSBlacklist, Valve, Sierra, Epic, United Admins or any other anti-cheating organization, or something similar, and you enter this site. You are in violation of part of the European Treaty of Human Rights, from 03-09-1953."

This IS legit, they do have a point since this treaty DOES indeed exist...but they have no specifications. They just say the treaty, no specific part, no specific reason.
They are basically saying they have a right (as Humans) to ILLEGALLY hack software, alter it, or run it alongside third-party software that is NOT APPROVED by EA or any of it's affiliates.

Here is another:
:
"If fixes are created by PunkBuster, CSGuard, CheatingDeath, CSHP, UTPure, Paladin, Tony Ray and his affiliates or other anti-cheating organization will be held responsible for violating part Of the European Treaty of Human Rights by denying us the rights of our civil liberties."

Once again they are basically saying they have a civil liberty to break the law.

And here is perhaps the most contradicting quote on the SAME form:
:
"By entering the www.fpscheats.com site you declare the above. The contract will have the same rights as a legal agreement, a legal act. By abusing the contract you are suspect of a criminal charge (forgery). The creator of this page or the ISP(s) hosting any content on this site take no responsibility for the way you use the information provided on this site. These files and anything else on this site are here for private purposes only and should not be downloaded or viewed whatsoever!"

They say the files they host SHOULD NOT BE DOWNLOADED, yet they host them 24/7. Not only that, those files are for private purposes only, by using them ONLINE in PUBLIC servers and not in servers ONLY for these people, they are breaking their OWN contract!

As you can see, I dislike hackers and those that create or use hacking software. They are hiding behind a legit treaty and simply saying that it is our right as a human beings to defy all governments and break the law.

Don't be a hacker. Hacking isn't cool when you ruin the games of others. If you decide to take the path of the Hack Side, then do it privately, in private servers with other people that hack, not in public servers where you ruin the fun of others.

*NOTICE*
I am not affiliated or involved with any hacking site or counter hacking site, and created this post simply because I feel hacking is wrong, and because the way these hacking sites hide behind the law and contradict themselves is absolutely pathetic. All above quotes came from the FPSCheats registration form at "www.FPSCheats.com/register.h tm". All spelling errors located within these quotes came from that registration form. This post was created to basically deter readers from attempting to obtain such hacks, no matter what people say, they are ILLEGALLY altering official copy-righted software for one's own enjoyment.

Lets discuss ways to combat hackers in the event that one enters a server.
One of the simplest ways is to issue a kick-vote once the players has accumulated multiple kills extremely quickly. However, this is not always as easy as it sounds. If the server you are on has no real rules and isn't full of serious players that play by the rules, the team with the hacker wont want to lose their star player.
This is also a problem if the hacker is affiliated with the clan that hosts the server. Most rules set by servers include kicking those that initiate a kick vote against a player in the clan that hosts the server.

If the above doesn't work, bring the hacker to any admins attention, most admins are affiliated with the clan or all clan members are admins. So look for the clan tag next to a player's name and alert the activities of the hacker to the admin.
Admins usually get the job done by kicking or banning the offending player.

If nothing works, or if there are no admins, rules, or players that want to kick the hacker, I suggest you just leave. Unless the hacking player leaves on his/her own, there is little choice. However, sometimes you accumulate many rank points and you do not want to leave, that's ok, it happens. You can stay if you so choose, an extra challenge never hurt anyone, much.

Tips for Squad Leader

May 31st 2009 23:34
Now, we all should be a squad leader once in a while, because you get bonus points that allow you to rank up much faster!

It aint easy to be a good squad leader, thats a fact. If you want to be good, you need to have a microphone for one, and quick fingers to rapidly give orders.

Lets focus on giving orders first:
There are 2 main ways to give orders, one being where you press "Caps Lock" to bring up the squad screen, then right clicking on a targets and selecting an order. The other is by pointing at an area with your gun crosshairs, pressing "T," and selecting an order.

Now lets focus on the different orders, shown by pressing "T" or right clicking on the Squad Map.
They are:
Request Supply Drop- Sends a request to the commander, if the commander accepts, a Suplly Drop Crate will land near the requested order, they replenish ammo and health and repair nearby vehicles.
Request UAV- Sends a request to the commander, if he accepts, a drone will fly around you issued area, pinging nearby enemies as red dots on the mini- and main- map.
Request Orbital Strike- Sends a request that, if accepted, will launch a powerful bombardment of fire in the designated area. "Orbitals," as they are known as damage friend and foe, so take cover and watch out for survivors.
Request EMP Strike- Similar to an Orbital, instead of a barrage of explosions, 2 blue blasts will land in the designated area. These EMP shots will disable nearby vehicles and ruin your vision if you are hit. You will suffer from numerous glitches in vision and it will be a different color. However, it will wear off. Watch out though, because it is very hard to aim with blurry vision.
Issue Order- This is very target specific, in other words, the effect changes with what you are aiming at. If you aim at a flag an choose to Issue an Order, It will either be an attack or defend order. If it is a friendly flag, it will be defend, if it is a hostile or neutral flag, it will be attack. If you aim at the ground, it will be a move order.

All of these orders can be issued from the main map, but if you are in the action and issue an order, you must point at the target before you issue an order. Snipers have the advantage, because they can get high up and use their scope to target something far away.

Now lets try how to be a good squad leader.
Besides knowing orders, you must know bonuses.
If you have a defend order and your squad is defending a command post, everytime a squad member or you get a kill, they get a bonus for obeying orders and you get a bonus for them obeying orders. This applies for attack as well. If you are in range of the order and you either get a kill or other point action (ex. resupply ammo, heal, repair etc.), you get a bonus point, and so does the squad leader.

Always try to give orders, even movement orders. Telling your squad where to go and what to do is the only way to control correctly. A squad isnt a squad if they do not obey and stay together.

Communication is Key!
If you do not have a mic, then it is very hard to be a good squad leader.
I recommend Tactical Gamer servers because you MUST have a mic. Talk with your squad! Being friendly and laid back is usually good. Squad members will freely talk with you. You want this because they will be talking about the current battle. You will get continuous updates then. In some battles, squad members truely have your back, do not worry if one says, "Theres one right behind you!" Or, "Watch out, one 'round the corner, I'll get him."

Having a mic is invaluble, you do not understand it's value until you do not have one yourself and then get one.

Strategy is also key, dont be afraid to wait awhile and talk with your squad to strategize, or do it on your way to the objective. Try new things!
Do not be afraid to hide in a corner while attacking a base.
This is actually a good strategy, that way, your entire squad can spawn on you and fight while you stay alive so they can spawn again! I actually get frustrated when people do this, because usually one squad leader a 5 squad members are hiding in a command post, continually spawning while my team goes nuts trying to eliminate the squad leader, taking many losses from the continually respawning squad.

Ok, we have talked about many things so far, but lets talk on Squad Leader Items.
These are key to sucess as a squad leader, they include the SLSB, The Squad Leader Spawn Becon, which is basically a deployable version of "spawning on the squad leader." There are 2 types of drones, one that is a fancy portable detection kind of thing and one that is a flying turrent. The final upgrade is an advanced SLSB, that really is the same as the first one, but lowers the respawn rate. The normal is 12 seconds, the new is much lower.

Allright, this concludes my tips to be a good Squad Leader, the rest is up to you. Dont be afraid to try something new, and listen to what your squad members say! You would be suprised what some say. I once got blinded by the obvious when a squad member pointed out an undefended route through the enemy's left flank.
