CJ Wilson has agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
The contract is five years and worth 75 million dollars. Wilson now joins a rotation that already has Jered Weaver and Dan Haren.
CJ Wilson went 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA last season. He threw over 223 innings last season and struck out 206 batters. Wilson joins the Angels on the same day that Albert Pujols signs with the Angels.
The Angels have now spent over 300 million dollars on two players in their 30s.
The players are the greatest first basemen of all time and a great left handed pitcher, but will the contracts hurt the Angels in the long run?
Just a thought!
The dark horse of baseball has signed the great one. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have signed Albert Pujols to a 10 year, 250 million dollar contract.
Albert hit .299 with 37 home runs and 99 RBIS last season. He is now the highest paid first basemen in baseball history.
The Cardinals now have to regroup with the loss of Pujols. They have Lance Berkman who hit over 30 homeruns last season. The Cardinals also have Matt Holliday who can be a batting champion at any point in his career. Look for the Cardinals to go after shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Rollins has the same agent as Pujols and the Cardinals will be looking to add offense the at shortstop position.
Pujols will join Tori Hunter, Mark Trumbo and Bobby Abreu in a now great Angels lineup. With Jered Weaver and Dan Haren in the starting rotation, look for the Angels to be serious contenders in 2012.
Great Moments in Dodgers History:
September 18th 2006: A Blast from the Past
Dodger Fans, there are important moments in Dodgers history that show the team at its zenith. It could be a homerun in the World Series, or a regular season perfect game. Either way these are moments remembered forever in the eyes of the fans. Todays article brings us back to the 2006 season when the term back to back was never taken more seriously.
September 18th 2006, the Dodgers were set to take on the San Diego Padres for a matinee game in Los Angeles. The Dodgers came in with a record of 78-71 and were fighting for the NL West title. Their main competitors for the NL West in 2006 were the San Diego Padres, coming in with a record of 78-70. The starter for the Dodgers was Brad Penny and going opposite him for the Padres was Jake Peavy.
The first inning seemed to set the tempo for the game. It would be an offensive showdown in Dodger Town. San Diego scored four runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI double by former Dodger great Mike Piazza. The Dodgers would comeback in the next three innings, scoring four runs. The big blow came off the bat of Rafael Furcal, who hit a homerun to centerfield. The game was tied 4-4 after three innings. There would be no more scoring until the 8th inning when the Padres scored two runs. Then they would score three in the ninth. LA was down 9-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
2002 NL MVP Jeff Kent stepped up to the plate in the ninth inning. He was just looking to make contact with the ball to keep his team in the game. However he got more than just contact when he drilled a homerun to centerfield. The score was 9-6. LA was still down by three runs yet hope was still alive. Up next was JD Drew, a power hitter in his own right. He drilled a homerun to right field and the Dodgers were down 9-7. The team went back to back and the game was within reach.
The next batter was Russell Martin, the Dodgers catcher. Martin was a rookie in 2006 and brought youth and excitement to both the fans and his teammates. He finished the season with 10 homeruns and a .282 batting average. Martin also brought some excitement to Dodger fans in this game, hitting a homerun to left field. The score was 9-8 and the Dodgers were within one run. Marlon Anderson stepped up as the potential tying run. The pitcher was Trevor Hoffman who at the time was the greatest closer in MLB history.
At the time he had 475 which were only three behind the all time record. Hoffman was set on the mound and unloaded his pitch. Anderson had less than a split second to make a game changing decision. Should he swing or take the pitch? Anderson decided to swing and for the sake of Dodger Town, that was the right decision. He drilled the ball deep into the right field night. The Dodgers came back to tie the game. However even after four straight homeruns, there was still baseball to be played.
The Padres scored a run in the tenth inning and took a 10-9 lead. Once again, the LA Dodgers were looking to come back. Speedster Kenny Lofton was able to get on base with and coming to the plate was Nomar Garciaparra. A former batting champion and all star for the Boston Red Sox, Garciaparra was used to coming through in clutch situations. He looked into the eyes of the opposing pitcher Rudy Seanez. Seanez was set and he through the best pitch he could muster. Despite it being his best pitch, it just wasnt good enough. Nomar drilled it deep and gone over the outfield fence for a homerun. The Dodgers came back to win the game 11-10.
Baseball is a funny game sometimes Dodgers fans. You dont always know what will happen, or when it will happen. You just know that when it does happen, youd better enjoy it!!!
I dont believe what I just saw!!! I dont BELIEVE what I just saw!!! Jack Buck
Former Dodger manager Joe Torre had to go through a lot of tough situations in his later Yankee years. Even when he went to the Dodgers, Torre still had to deal with badgering from the media about the Yankee Brass. Yankee DH Jorge Posada is now on New Yorks front stage with the latest headline. Posada wanted to take a day off to clear his head. As far as the Jorge Posada story goes, I have facts to say that THIS IS NOT POSADAS FAULT, BUT THE FAULT OF THE YANKEES MANAGEMENT. This is just another case of history repeating itself.
Lets look at some facts. First of all Joe Torre came to the LA Dodgers to escape the terrors of the Yankees. In 2008 The Yankees were a shell of their former selves. They fired the Yankee manager with the most wins for the club since Casey Stengel and George Steinbrenner, (God rest his soul) was sick with mental health problems. Torre who would go onto lead the Dodgers to two playoff appearances, including a game away from the World Series was ultimately thrown out of the Bronx because of a small disagreement with the Yankee Brass

When you think of the New York Yankees, you think of pride. You think of tradition. But most importantly, you think of winning. That is what defined each of the following Yankees. They won with pride and tradition so you better remember the pinstripes. Lou Piniella, Bernie Williams and Joe Torre were all true Yankees and this is their story.
Lou Piniella was a career .295 hitter in his 10 seasons with the Yankees. He started out his career mainly with the Kansas City Royals. (Lou played in four games with the Orioles in 1964 and didnt get a hit. He also played six games with the Cleveland Indians and did not pick up a hit.) Piniella won the 1969 AL Rookie of the Year due to his 139 hits and .282 batting average. In his career with the Yankees, Lou was a clubhouse leader. With a team full of egos like Reggie Jackson and Thurman Munson, Lou Piniella was able to keep his teammates in check. Just like his apprentice Paul O Neill, no one wanted to be near Lou after a 0-4 game

Dodger fans, Baseball is Americas Pastime. However America stands for much more than baseball. It stands for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. When someone is able to stand up for the happiness that we all deserve, shouldnt be praised. Well on this day 35 years ago, one Rick Monday became a symbol for Country pride.
Rick Monday was a 19 year veteran of Major League Baseball. He led the Dodgers to the 1981 World Series crown. He hit a career high 32 home runs in 1976. However it was one play during the 1976 season while playing for the Cubs that defined a legacy for Monday. It is a legacy that beyond the diamond. This one play didnt involve hitting a walk off homerun or making a game saving catch. However Rick Monday saved the pride of the nation with speed, determination and the love of the country in mind

What defines a champion? Is it the amount of World Series rings that they have on their hands? Or is it the heart and passion that fuels their drive for the game. I believe the second choice outweighs the first choice considerably. As a pitcher in the Big Leagues, Steve Karsay was that type of champion. This is the story of Steve Karsay; a man with a dream and a legacy of heart.
Karsay was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of 1990 MLB draft. His ultimate goal was to make the big leagues, and that he would do. However his career took a pretty unique turn at first. Before being called up in 1993, Karsay was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Oakland Athletics. He was part of the deal that sent former AL MVP and future hall of famer Rickey Henderson to Toronto. Even though he was traded, Karsay did not wavier. It added no extra pressure on him being traded for Henderson because all that matter to him was making the big leagues. Steve Karsay made the Majors with the Oakland Athletics in 1993

The 2011 Baseball season will be ending soon enough and we are all looking forward for the World Series However while we wait for the season to end, lets take a look back at baseball history with a good old fashion Baseball Trivia Contest
There is baseball history every time you watch a game. Who wouldve thought when Yogi Berra returned to Yankee Stadium in 1999 on Yogi Berra Day, there would be a perfect game thrown? Don Larsen threw out the first pitch that day to Yogi and then shook the hand of the perfect game pitcher David Cone. However there is more history in that game than just the perfect game. Future Yankee Javier Vazquez actually made the start for the opposing team that day, The Montreal Expos
