J. J.'s entertainment & travel stories - J. J.'s music and reviews

bar hoppin' and bad music

April 18th 2007 02:51
I've been known to dance on a table, stage, speakers. Sometimes even when I'm sober just to have some fun...but that's a story for another time...no music or people encouraged me to do such a thing friday.

We started off at Up A Creek in Howland, where I grewup ( I grew up in Howland not the bar). It was packed. I've seen it more packed, but not much. I think it was the house band playing. Unfortunately, I forget the name of whoever was play. But I do remember the band that sucked later...I had a Captain & Coke. We only stayed a bit before hitting the next place.

Next we went to play pool at KrackerJacks. We usually get a laugh from that place because other than being a good place to play pool, its a good play to good hit on....If you don't mind getting hit on by extremely drunk guys that are double your age....Yuck! but it can be amusing. It's fine if you don't make direct eye contact...I did run into a guy I know through my bro, Chris. He's about the only friend of my bro's that's not forbidden to talk to me. My brother's a bit over protective and most of his friends...well, he doesn't trust them...Had another Captain & Coke. Played a few games of really bad pool and listed to some amusing 80s music. Amy can play very well; I have fun.

Had a snack attack so went to BW3. Better view, good cheese covered waffle fries & cheese sticks. And had another Captain & Coke. Lots of Laughter and pictures were taken. Just maybe the Captain was encouraging the stories a bit. But sitting there just chatting and laugh was the high light of the night...pretty sad....

Amy has passes to The Wedge, so we headed there next. There had to be some good music there, right? Well, she didn't have to use her passes. We got hit as we entered. A drunk guy started telling the guy at the door me and Amy looked to young to be there. He said I was 18. A year older than I usually get from the drunk guy who also usually compares me to Britnany Spears, but I'll take the compliment...but does it really count?

The band was Wonder Land. First they performed Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life". The lead singer sounded really good. Not Amy Lee good, but she sounded great. Her backup male counter part sounded more like Justin Timber Lake trying to sing Heavy Metal or me for that matter. It wasn't nearly powerful enough or a deep enough or throaty enough. Next they tried to perform No Boubt's "Hella Good". The singer went from really good to treally bad. It was nasal and just almost hard to listen to. I suggest she doesn't try to sing like the the singer of the song (if that is what she was trying to do) and sing more like she did on the first song. A Drank a bit more, but that should have made the band sound better not worse...

We went to the Gasby Last...there was a snow storm on the way back to my house...I had to work the next day at 1pm. Usually, not much responsibility for anything but what I have to do. But my boss put me in charge of a group project...Neither of the other people wanted to work and I did not want to force them...I got a bit done and they did what they could to fill me in on office gossip.
