Casa De Paz

There are many amazing things to do in Baja California, from historical sites and Old Missionaries to the BAJA 5000. Not the least of which is enjoy the wonderful culinary delights Baja has to offer - of note is the Baja Fish Taco! According to the US Consulate Baja sports over 170,000 American Retirees. Not far from here is "Baja Film Studios" where the ocean scenes for the films Titanic and Master and Commander were created. Food, Fun and Festivities abound with something to do every day or night if you care to.

A drive along Bahia Todos Santos is a dream, while dining at the Ensenada fisherman's wharf is a culinary brainfest. Fresh seafood from the pacific coast just can't be beat. There is also great shopping in the tourist district where one can discover the best and worst of Mexican art, clothing and gifts for loved ones and friends alike. A trip to Ensenada is a great days adventure from me.

As an Expat American one of the other ventures dear to my heart is the education of local school children. Our community works hard to support education in the local region along with food for the hungry and support for the impoverished. One organization doing many wonderful projects here is the La Mision Children's Fund (LMCFund.com) a US 501(c)3 non-profit. Their mission is to support other organizations in their pursuit to assist in local needs. I fully support this and other organizations with my donations and time. I volunteer for many of their functions and have even attended one of the orphanages they support. A worthy cause by any label is a worthy cause, but as Baja has been hit very hard by the economic downturn the needs are greater than ever. I salute the LMCFund and the people that volunteer and support the organization.

Adventure is not just about extreme fun or being outback, it is about changing who you are - experiencing differences in your life. One way to experience that difference is to see yourself through the eyes of others. When you see the spirit that embodies impoverished children and the hope they hold for a brighter future, you are yourself changed.

So while Sea Kayaking, Hiking, Snorkeling, Whale Watching, Surfing and Fishing are all great adventures here in Baja, support for the local community is a real adventure with real benefits...

News and Views on Baja California

November 9th 2010 19:41

As a companion to "BajaChef" I am creating Baja Adventurer to cover stories, news and events about living in Baja California, Mexico. I moved to Baja the first time over 8 years ago, then had to return to the other side for a time. Two and a half years ago I returned to my inspired Playa La Mision. I haven't looked back. Don't get me wrong, the other side is great and has its charms, quirks and locations. I simply feel I was destined to locate here. And, I have a great love for Mexican Culture. As we progress there are stories of romance, heartbreak, love and adventure. Then some about self discovery and straddling the pummel of discarded dreams. These parts of life are fundamental in the world of human conditions, but for me, here, everything seems more colorful, more enveloping, more surreal, and even more sorrowful. Yet, it should be told in a manner that ignites imagination while stirring creativity and inspiring self awareness. I hope to do so with these tales of one Baja Adventurer.
