If you are a car owner, there should be a place for such a maintenance tool as a car floor jack in your toolkit. Most times car manufacturers provide a specific jack with the cars they produce, but you may lose or break it or even not get it at all if you buy a used vehicle. Be careful, when choosing a replacement for your former car jack because different jacks serve different cars.

In most cases car jacks are used to raise a portion of a car. It is often used when one needs to change a tire, but that is not the only way of using an automotive floor jack. With a typical car jack you can only raise one corner of your vehicle. For lifting the whole front or back of your car, you need a specialized one.

For car manufacturers scissor jacks are the most favorite type of car jacks, so in most cases they provide it with their cars. This type of jacks utilizes the central screw mechanism for raising and lowering a car. You can use a tire tool or a specialized handle (if you have got one in addition to your car jack) to turn the mechanism.

For lifting trucks and other large vehicles you have to use specialized jacks, fitted with a large flat base plate, ratcheting mechanism and a long shaft with large teeth.

Another popular type of car jacks among car owners is a hydraulic jack. You can find both wheeled and non-wheeled hydraulic jack models.

The last type of car jacks which is often used in car repair shops is a large floor jack, which operates with the help of hydraulic fluid. Such a car jack is very helpful for lifting the entire back of a car.

Safety features of car jacks make sure that you avoid accidental injuries. A wide base prevents the jack from sinking into the soil or tilting. A special handle is another step to secure a car owner, although several types of jacks can be operated with a tire removal tool. A stop point on a jack helps to avoid overextending it beyond its capabilities.

When travelling on your car you'd better have an automobile jack at hand. With a car jack you can quickly and easily change a tire in a situation when there is no one to help you or when you think that calling for assistance will be too expensive. But emergent situations are not the only time when you will find it helpful. If you like to do all the maintenance by yourself, a car jack will help you to change belts, oil, brake pads, etc. So, we may conclude from the above that an automotive floor jack is a must-have for every car owner.
