If your travel insurance ends before your vacation, top-up travel insurance is the key to ensuring you have emergency medical travel insurance for the entire duration of your holidays.
Top-up travel insurance
Top-up travel insurance is a policy that is purchased by travellers who already have travel insurance coverage, but do not have the coverage they need for the entire length of time they will be away.

There are three common scenarios for someone to need top-up travel insurance:
1.
Your credit card travel insurance coverage only covers a portion of your trip
Many credit cards that offer the cardholder emergency medical travel insurance limit the number of days they’ll cover per trip. If you’ll be on vacation longer than the number of days you’re covered through your credit card, top-up travel insurance will ensure you have the coverage you need for your entire holiday.
2.
Your coverage through work only covers a portion of your trip
Often employee workplace benefits offer emergency medical travel insurance, however sometimes these policies cap the number of days they'll cover per trip. If you’ll be on holiday longer than the number of days you’re covered through your workplace benefits, purchasing a top-up policy will provide protection for the rest of your vacation.
3.
Your holiday is longer than the trip length of your annual, multi-trip policy
Multi-trip travel insurance policies come in a variety of lengths. You can get policies that provide coverage for one or two weeks, or one or two months. If your multi-trip policy doesn’t cover you for the full length of your stay, topping up will ensure you are covered for the full duration of your getaway.

Your home may be where you lay your head at night, but is it also where you work? When your workplace is also your home-base then you might be under the mistaken belief that your business is insured under the liability and contents coverage you have with your home insurance policy; it's not, unless your home insurer knows you operate a business out of your home.
www.autoinsurancepage.co.cc
A recent study released by the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) suggests that 39 per cent of Canadians who operate a home-based business do not have insurance coverage that specifically addresses the special needs of a business.
Are you in this group? Consider commercial property and general liability coverage designed especially with your home-based business in mind.
Consider the scenario provided by the IBC's "Know your stuff" campaign designed to educate Canadians when it comes to home, car and business insurance. For those 39%--who do not have a beefed up home policy that includes coverage for their business, or a separate business insurance policy--the following is an adaptation of a scenario provided by the IBC, of what might happen if you assume your home insurance policy will cover your home-based business activities:
Let's say, out of your home, you work as a retail products distributor (maybe you work for Tupperware® or Mary Kay Cosmetics®.) What you sell really doesn't matter; it could be cosmetics, household cleaning products, food storage containers, or candles.
Theft
What if while you’re out delivering your orders someone breaks into your car and steals the items you were to deliver? The theft would not be covered under your auto insurance policy, because theft of contents from a vehicle is typically covered under your home or tenant’s insurance. And it won’t be covered through your home or tenant’s insurance, because the product is related to a business your policy doesn’t cover because your insurer didn’t know you ran a business out of your home.

Injury
Now consider the courier company employee that comes to your home to deliver your product, or other business-related material. What if he or she slips and falls, suffers a terrible injury and sues you? Will the liability portion of your home insurance policy protect you? No. The injury was the direct result of a business-related activity and therefore, will not likely be covered under your personal home insurance policy. But that doesn’t mean you won’t have to pay. The courier employee can still pursue you for compensation through the courts. Without proper business liability insurance, you could be ruined financially if the courts find you legally liable for the courier’s injuries.
And what if one of the products you sell causes injury to a consumer? That consumer can sue the product manufacturer for compensation, but you would also be liable as the distributor.
Fire
A house fire could also have devastating consequences for you. If everything related to the business is lost – all your product, computer equipment, office furniture, records, etc. – there's a chance none of it will be covered under your home insurance policy. What’s more, if you have not disclosed the existence of the home-based business to your insurance company, your home insurance policy may be voided resulting in the potential that none of your loss will be covered.

While some people don’t realize their home insurer needs to know in advance that they run a business out of their home, there are others who think they’re saving money by not doing so. All Canadians who operate a home-based business should have insurance that helps to protect everything you are working so hard to achieve; and that’s where a commercial insurance policy can help.
While an extension on your home insurance policy to include your business is better then no coverage at all, it’s kind of like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. A business insurance policy that includes commercial property and general liability insurance is really the way to go. The policy, and how much and what it covers, is designed specifically with your home-based business in mind.
Business insurance, like commercial property and general liability isn’t just for businesses that operate out of a storefront; it’s for home-based business owners too. In fact, perhaps it’s more important for home-based business owners since this is after all where you lay your head down at night.

When you started your business, chances are you didn't think "Great, now I can get business insurance!" In fact, chances are it was the last thing on your mind while starting up.
Really Long Link
If business insurance (like the popular commercial general liability and commercial property coverages) has never been 'on your mind' because you think it is some obscure, never-going-to-happen, never-going-to-need-it policy, consider the following scenarios. While fictional, these scenarios are not out of the realm of possibility and bring to life how commercial property and general liability coverage can help a business, even during what seems to be day-to-day operations.*
Not sure how commercial general liablity insurance (CGL) coverage protects you? Consider:
* One of your sales people is out on a call at a potential client's store. The owner of this store thinks your product will sell well in their store and is considering placing an order. Unfortunately, in their over-zealous sales pitch your salesperson knocks over a whole display of very expensive figurines valued at over $25,000.
* You've finally opened the doors to your trendy new lighting and fixture showroom and you've got the table and floor lamps, sconces, ceiling fans and chandeliers that all the city’s interior designers want. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to you, a shopper moved a few floor lamps around while deciding on whether they wanted to buy. In doing so, the lamp’s cord is no longer neatly tucked out of the way, and another shopper, a few hours later, trips and falls over the cord, breaking her ankle.
* As a local tailor, you're devastated to learn that a small fire has destroyed all your customer’s clothing that is awaiting pick up, delivery or mending. It’s not your clothing, and the fire wasn’t even caused by you, but will your customers see it that way?

* Business has been good, and many orders have come in from your clients for more of your product. So you load up the car and head out, fully stocked and ready to fulfill all your orders. While making your first delivery, your car is broken into and everything—your product, laptop, and your PDA, are stolen. And no, this type of loss isn’t covered through your auto insurance policy—even if it is registered for commercial or business-use.
* Early on you were told to buy property to make money; and you have. Now, you own four properties that you rent out to other businesses. Regrettably, at one of the locations, some old wiring shorted out and caused a fire, burning down your building. Thankfully nobody was hurt, but there will be a significant outlay of money needed in order to repair what’s left of the building and rebuild what’s not.

“Cheap Car Insurance” has become one of those catch-phrases heard daily and only too often by the now desensitized consumer, thanks to the advertising and marketing industry. You find it used in radio ads that like to repeat at least twenty times while you are trying to snooze on Sunday mornings, in ten second television commercials with convincing salespeople, and in the headlines of so many of the advertising posters that line the sides of subway cars and buses. Okay, okay, okay, I get it: “cheap car insurance.”
