You know that plastic bags are bad for the planet and still can’t think of something useful to do with them…well here is a cool idea to recycle at least 60 bags at one shot and a great DIY project for the summers….
Recycle bags
Tell me what you think about it…I am already busy hunting for my pile of plastic bags for the project….
If you are at home
1. If you are planning to replace a refrigerator or a computer, a television or a music system, buy the energy efficient option.
2. Replace all conventional bulbs with energy star bulbs
3. Plant a tree
4. Walk, take public transport, car pool or buy a more fuel efficient car
5. Clean dirty air filters regularly
6. Run dish washer, washing machines only when full
7. Insulate your homes to save the heat from going out
8. Keep tires inflated and get better mileage
9. Buy organic food
10. Turn off, unplug appliances not in use
11. Buy products with less packaging and recycle the paper, boxes etc.
12. Use a low flow shower head
13. use cold water to wash
14. Recycle grey water for plants.
15. Say no to plastic bags
If you are at work
1. Reduce photocopying, use both sides of the paper if you must
2. Reuse packaging for shipping
3. Use email, reduce paper mail
4. Arrange teleconferences or video conferences instead of going al the way for the meeting
5. Install timers to turn off light automatically
6. Specifically buy recycled, refurbished products. Think of the environment not just the cost
7. Encourage office staff to use car pool
8. Use old mails, old papers as rough use sheets.
9. Ask employees to turn off monitors when not in use
10. Buy carbon offset for all the carbon emission you must do.
11. Have employee incentives for those who take added precaution during work to work with the environment
12. Use ink pens or those that can be refilled. Do not use, use-and-throw pens.
13. Use energy efficient ACs, vending machines etc.
if you have something to add on to...please feel free to comment.
Here are some very interesting Giraffe facts that I am sure you never knew….
Giraffes sleep only about half an hour per day, usually in shorter nap form.
The Giraffe is the tallest animal in the world reaching a height of 18 feet or more.
A newborn giraffe is about 6 feet tall when it is born.
The giraffe has to spread its legs apart of kneel down to take a drink since its neck is too short to reach the ground otherwise.
A giraffe pregnancy lasts approximately 15 months.
A male giraffe is known as a bull and a female as a cow. The baby giraffe is called a calf.
The Giraffe has a prehensile tongue, which allows it to grasp objects such as leaves.
No two giraffes have the same pattern.
Not all giraffes have spots. There have been rare documented cases of albino giraffes and also of solid beige ones with no spots at all!
Starting last week, I have taken upon the task of clarifying some misconceptions regarding climate change, like global warming not being caused by humans, the relation of sun with global warming etc.
Many people still believe humans are not really responsible for a natural phenomenon like warming of the planet. If you are one of them, please read Misconception 1 [ Click here to read more ]
If summer is the time for extremely hot weather in India, it is also the time to feast on some extremely cool fruits like the watermelon. This juicy, subtly crunchy, thirst quenching fruit is just so welcome in the scorching summer heat, that even the sight of piles and piles of watermelons on road side vendor shops is enough to send a soothing, cooling effect all through the body

The ice is not just melting; it is prompting countries to redefine borders now. That is exactly what has happened between Switzerland and Italy, two countries who have decided they must re-draw their borders due to the rapidly dissolving alpine glaciers.
The border has been fixed since 1861, when Italy became a unified state. But for the past century the surface area of the “cryosphere”, the zone of glaciers, permanent snow cover and permafrost, has been shrinking steadily, with dramatic acceleration in the past five years. This is the area over which the national frontier passes and the two countries have now agreed to have their experts sit down together and hash out where it ought to run now

As the temperatures keep soaring in all parts of the country, I thought I will share information about a remarkable temple in Orissa that is dedicated to the God of heat and light – The Sun.
The Konark Sun Temple is an architectural marvel. It is built like the shape of a chariot with 12 pairs of wheels to carry the Sun God on his daily journey across the sky. Gods, demons, Kings, elephants and of course horses jostle for space on its walls with so many fascinating depictions that it can take an entire day to study each character carefully

it is an old saying that little drops fill a pail....so definitely small things hep in getting big things done....our becoming concious about the environment is the first step....the next is to live a life that revolves around that conciousness.
