Athlete or Celebrity?

March 10th 2010 01:54
Manny

Manny Ramirez often seen hitting a homerun to win the game or being referred to a “Manny being Manny play” can be often referred to as a clown, or a celebrity other than a player. Not only does he attract fans to cities, states but also franchises. How big were the Los Angeles Dodgers before Manny arrived? Is it his haircut? Is it his number 99? Or his laid back play on fielding. Does it matter? He did bring his bat, bringing them deep into the playoffs. In baseball hitting .300 is perceived as being a top athlete. Hitting homeruns and being an offensive player is mainly all that is nessasary in the MLB. Even though defense wins championships, Manny’s glove is not THAT bad. Manny, mainly focuses his game on getting the big hit. Fielding is key to the game of baseball but Manny's lack of glove has not cost the team much. He brings expertise to the game; he also brings the arguments, the crazy breaks in the green monster. How about the famous cutoff from the outfield?

The difference he brings to the game of baseball is he brings the athleticism most athletes bring, but also makes the game interesting. He isn’t a joke, he continues to practice hard, play strong and prove he is a Baseball player. The way he plays the game is his signature. Everybody signs his or her name the same way on a receipt, but it all means the same thing. His above average play like many other all-stars makes him an athlete. Like Jimmy Rollins and Dontrelle Willis random handshakes, or the constant fights between Prince Fielder and the San Francisco pitchers, these are all attractions from the media. Baseball is a game of the fans also; teams attracting the fans, selling out year in and out always have successful seasons to at LEAST the playoffs. Manny Ramirez Debut brings the Dodgers stadium to a full house! Not only does Manny bring a different view to the game, he makes it fun, interesting and intense.
