As I lay...
As I lay and watched the flowers bow
Gently in the breeze that wandered off
the water
I stared as two butterflies flittered
From each coloured patch of the garden
And I wondered
If they would prefer to have been
Born an ant, released of the heavy burden
Of wings.
I watched as the ants crawled
Through the dirt with their heavy load
And I wondered
If they would prefer to have been
Born a grain of sand with
No feelings.
As I lay a lonely cloud floated
Amongst the beauty of an empty azure sky
And I wondered
If it felt lonely, lost in all that space
Looking down to the chaos of an ugly world
And I wondered
Perhaps the cloud would like to
Have been born the wind which was
Truly free.
My eye was caught by a blade of grass
That stood small and weak and broken
And I wondered
If it would rather have been born a tree
Strong and majestic and protective
Over all.
As I lay I looked at my hand
That had written so many words of joy
And pain.
I imagined eyes that met my gaze
Each morning in a cold and shallow
Mirrored reflection.
I thought of my mouth that had screamed
Many silent and liquid words into
The dark.
I felt my ears that had caught
Sounds so beautiful and some I cared never to
Hear again.
I stared at my feet and wished
They would carry me off to be a
grain of sand.
Gently in the breeze that wandered off
the water
I stared as two butterflies flittered
From each coloured patch of the garden
And I wondered
If they would prefer to have been
Born an ant, released of the heavy burden
Of wings.

Beautifully expressed sentiments, Ash. There are advantages and disadvantages to any life condition.

Your words are beautiful, Ash but I sensed your sadness. These lines particularly resonated for me:
I thought of my mouth that had screamed
Many silent and liquid words into
The dark.
I felt my ears that had caught
Sounds so beautiful and some I cared never to
Hear again.

Learning from our mistakes is of utmost importance isn`t it? As well as learning from those made by others. Life is definitely a sometimes bumpy journey and as you say:
Thank you for your wise words

I am glad you found the pain as well as the beauty - that is life isn`t it? The two walk hand in hand, it is just finding the balance that is the trick - or perhaps they will always be in constant battle with one another.....
thanks for the revisit, lovely to have you over again
