Arthur McMinnis - Part 324

As the bamboo door swayed closed, Arthur muttered "friendly huh?" as he slid off from the operating table and began to feel around the ill lit room for his clothes. Reaching into a dark corner, he felt the soft worn leather of his coat and grabbed for the pile of clothing resting beneath it. He jumped into his trousers and fastened the belt, then pulled the shirt on over each shoulder. As he fastened the buttons on his shirt, he heard a voice from outside of the yurt, and gathered the remaining articles of clothing to peek out a crack in the door. He could see two large men, each holding a spear, and each standing on either side of the door to his yurt.
Arthur continued to don his garb as he sat and listened to the two guards, however he could not understand their words, for they were alien to him in every way. By the time he was fully clothed, Arthur began to search the room for a means of escape, however there were no other openings to the yurt. He suddenly felt a wave of unease pass over his mind as he realized that his device was missing from his pocket. He felt the pockets of his jacket to no avail. He fell to the dirt covered floor and began to sweep his fingers along in search for it, however he could find no trace of the device.
As he continued to search the room, he could hear the bamboo door swing open. Arthur spun around to find a young and very beautiful woman standing in the open doorway holding a large tray of cut fruit and smoked fish. "Have you lost something friend?" a sweet and welcoming voice slipped into his mind. The voice felt natural and a part of Arthur's consciousness, like it was the part of him that had been lacking for years. His fears rushed away and he began to relax at the young woman's telepathic words, "My name is N'Alla, I have brought you some nourishment." She held out the tray and gestured toward a nearby table and chair, "Please, sit, enjoy this meal that I have prepared for you."
Arthur was in awe of the young woman's beauty and grace. He stood up and walked to the chair. Before seating himself at the table, he turned and was about to talk to N'Alla, but the young woman set the tray down and pressed her finger to his lips. "Not with your lips for I cannot understand your words, speak with your mind, as though you are thinking," N'Alla communicated with Arthur.
Arthur took a deep breath and bit his lip a little and began to think of what to say to the young woman. N'Alla blushed and turned at a stray thought of Arthur's, then to avoid embarrassment, Arthur tried to fill his head with mathematical formulas. Then after an awkward pause, he finally thought out the words, "I had a device in my pocket, however it seems to be missing..."
Before he could finish the thought, N'Alla interrupted him, "Our elders were curious about that device. What is it? Is it some kind of weapon?"
"No, no! Its nothing like that!" Arthur blurted out, then he caught himself and remembered to use his thoughts to convey his message. "No, its not a weapon. Its a device to open portals into other worlds."
"Other worlds?" N'Alla giggled in disbelief, "I know of no other world other than my own. Are you from another world, friend?"
"Yes," Arthur replied to the Young woman, "I come from a modern society called Earth. I was a student there. I built a device similar to the one that your elders possess, and was pulled away from my world into another." Arthur paused to take a deep breath before he continued, "I've been searching for my way back home ever since."
N'Alla felt the sadness and longing that Arthur felt, she rested her hand on his shoulder and looked deep within his eyes. Arthur felt a shutter of excitement rush over his body and N'Alla blushed a little, then returned her gaze to Arthur. "You will one day find your home if you still wish to return there, you must never give up your dreams." She batted her eyes and returned to Arthur, "In the meantime however, you are welcome in our village. You can stay in this yurt as long as you like. I will bring you nourishment daily. You are a friend to my people, and will bring much blessing to our village." She beckoned to Arthur to seat himself, "You must eat, you are weary from your recovery and I am known throughout the village to prepare the most delicious smoked Ha'Kuki fish." She turned toward the door, then peeked over her shoulder at Arthur as he sat down at the table, "If you need anything, just utter to the guards my name, and they will retrieve me." She turned and walked out the open bamboo door, closing it behind her.

Also I edited the ending to the previous post. Arthur no longer falls asleep at the end of that issue. I was a little unsure about that when I was writing it, and decided to leave the issue with the shaman leaving the yurt. This issue picks up where the other left now leaves off with the bamboo door shutting.
The shaman woman was originally going to be the love interest, however I decided that she was going to be older and wiser, and the love interest would be young. I didn't feel any chemistry in the initial interaction with Arthur and the Shaman, and I couldn't find a good place to insert the chemistry.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this issue, I will try and write another issue tonight if I can get a good wifi signal in the appartment since our internet on the desktop went out of service.
