Arsenal v Manchester City @ The Emirates Stadium | Preview
January 5th 2011 16:43
Tonight will be sudorific for most soccer fans as Arsenal take on Manchester City at home. This match is sure to send shock waves throughout our body, as both sides need 3 points to keep up with ManU in the title race and they will do anything to achieve those 3 points.
The last time these both sides met, Arsenal succinctly defeated ManC 3-0, thanks to a 5th minute red card for City defender Boyata. But past has passed and City are looking more dangerous with Silva showing his class week in and week out. Sadly for ManC, Silva is out of this clash due to an injury.
City also have a lot of defects. Most notable of them is their team chemistry. There have been constant training ground bust-ups between some City players, with Adebayor and Kolo Toure clash being the latest one.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have a well bonded team and can make things precarious for their opponent's defense due to this bond. Also, Wenger believes that success can come cheap.
"The real, real true test would be to give 100 million pounds to all the 20 clubs in the Premier League and say 'let's go'. That is the real test. Then you can say at the end of the year, the best club has won. The real, real test would be that everybody has exactly the same resources." Wenger, who last won a trophy in 2005, told reporters on Tuesday as third-placed Arsenal prepare to host second-placed Man City on Wednesday.
Arsenal are sure to play their style of football; possession football. At home, this style sometimes makes the opposition team hit on the vulnerable mark and City defense have to be at their meanest levels to deny the Arsenal strike force.
Arsenal player to watch - Alex Song
He had a tremendous game against Chelsea and was the best player of that match according to me. He is where the defensive duties of Arsenal end and the attacking quotes begin. He is a player who, if gets going, can stop the savagest of attacks single-handed. Also, he is always there to be found on the opposition area. He provides necessary support in attack and constantly builds up play. In short words, he is a kind of a holding midfielder which any team would be glad to have. Finally, it is his responsibility to overcome the strength of Tevez and Yaya and the speed of Milner and Johnson to ensure a victory for the Gunners.
Manchester City player to watch - Carlos Tevez
The influential captain has been in phenomenon form since wearing the captain's arm band. Mancini's decision to hand him captaincy was a masterstroke and City now see themselves at the 2nd spot of the table. He and Silva have been the driving force of City's attack. Sadly, Silva is out of this clash due to an injury or else I would had undoubtedly put the Spain international's name up there. What Carlos possesses a lot is determination. He will drive along his team and will never say die. And when that determination gets added to skill and power, it becomes irresistible for the opponents to face him. If City are to win today, he has to play well.
My Prediction: Arsenal 4 - 2 Man City
I believe this is going to be a high scoring affair because the title is at stake for both these clubs. In the end, though, Arsenal are going to come out victorious because of their fine form and sky scraping confidence.
