Are you asleep little bear?

Each night I will read one or two stories to Callum in his bed while he drinks his milk. Normally we will take it in turns to choose the books, one night me, the next night Callum, this way I avoid every single night having to read a Thomas the Tank Engine story which I can assure you is not fun! *laugh* After the stories are finished Callum and I will have cuddles and kisses and then after an eternity I'll escape. The last couple weeks Callum has asked if I'll leave his mini Thomas the Tank Engine books on his bedside table so he can read them, which I have no problem with. I'm a firm believer in children appreciating and having a love for books and I'm more than happy to encourage this with Callum. Sure he can't properly read at the moment but he's heard the stories enough times to know what happens in them and a lot of the time he makes up his own little story which is just the cutest thing to hear and to me channels that huge imagination he has. Also added into the reading Callum will sing, it'll be anything from Twinkle Twinkle to the Alphabet song (which at the end he congratulates himself on doing a "good job"). And then eventually he is asleep. When it goes all quite in his room either Daz or I will check to (1) make sure he's ok and (2) to see if he is asleep.

So last night was the same bedtime ritual although even though it was my turn to choose two stories somehow I got shepherded into Callum choosing one and I choosing one, which didn't even get read in the end. Callum chose surprise surprise a Thomas story.

Anyhow about 8pm all was quiet so Daz popped his head round to see if all was ok, this is what he saw.

Don't worry above the book he had a clear airway breathing space, but it was so cute to see.

This morning upon showing Callum the photo and saying did he remember falling asleep like that he denied all knowledge and has put the blame on BBB (Big Brown Bear) saying he did it. Kids! *laugh*

Lovely stuff, Sarah,

I've never been too much into cuddles and kisses, it seems a relatively new phenomenon.

It does have something going for it but I wonder what benefits we'll see in the future.

Yes, I know all the modern day thinking, I just wonder about it.

Callum looks so cute there, that is if it IS Callum.

It's really hard to find people with this new 20 and over system. I'm not taking to it too kindly really, I hope you are finding it all right.

Luv, and cuddles and kisses.

Hi Sarah,

What a beautiful image and very funny the way the book's lying right over his face.

My daughter's very similar. She's just started taking to having a story in bed with her - it beats having her crying herself to sleep. I guess she takes after her mum, I fell asleep many a time with a book in my hand.

Hi Sarah

Cute picture.

My son is a singer as well, he will sing anything and everything as soon as his light goes off. A particular favourite of his is the Australian National Anthem ... sung at the top of his voice.

Kisses and cuddles with your children are some of the most wonderful things. It's a shame not everyone gets to appreciate them and understand the joy such a simple gesture can give to you and your child.

Hi Sarah

ahhhh that`s soooo cute! I wanted to take my godson on Thomas the Tank Engine in Alton last year but sadly we never got the chance. He is a Thomas fan too!

I used to love being read stories. There is something magical about stepping into the world of the imagination. It doesn`t matter how many times you read the same book you can always be somewhere different. I hope Callum's love of books never goes away.... great that you are so encouraging with it!

That's great Sarah. My 4 year old Alex has about 20 of those Thomas books and now my 22 month old Christian recognises Thomas too now. I will never escape this antiquated form of transport.

I do the same as you when Alex says "just one more story". "Read it yourself" I tell him.

One of his favourites is Are You My Mother and he "reads" it alright. He's heard it enough times that he's remember every word.

But I'm like you, books are great.

Love & stuff
Mrs M

P.S. Thanks for the mention up top
