Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

Are men becoming more feminine?

VERSUS

It is a simple question really - are men becoming more feminine? I remember way back when during one of my High School Literature classes our teacher spoke of the world moving toward a single sex society. According to research over the years men have started to become less and less fertile. This is partly due to the decrease in the 'Y' chromosome, which is responsible for the male developement. I will not go into all the details about genes and what they do and what they are responsible for, that is a whole new post. However, there are some groups of animals who can reproduce without the presence of males.

I look at men, particularly the younger ones, these days and I think, "What has happened to all the macho men? You know big, burly, grunting manly men?" Call me old fashioned but there is nothing worse than two men embracing or moaning and complaining about this and that. And why do they always have to touch one another`s butts? I look at the products that men use....I have a lot myself, but there is no way I can compare to their bathrooms full of bottles and potions. Gel for this, mousse for that, brushes for this, cologne, aftershave, creams...whew!

I see a friends 15 year old and he was a real, typical boy. He used to hunt birds in the garden and play in the dirt and eat bugs and so forth. Now I look at him as he is older and he uses straightening tongs everyday to do his hair and he puts his sisters make-up on! I know gay men who are more macho than this! Sometimes when I see him and his girlfriend together I wonder if their conversations consist of swapping beauty tips and the latest fashion trends to hit the streets of Paris.

It is not only him. What is it with guys and all these tight clothes they wear? And this shaggy hair that they flick around the place, walking along the street like models on a catwalk? Where did the short-back-and-sides go? They are even becoming smaller. When is the last time you saw a guy with broad shoulders, big hands, hepahlumping their way along the street? Now they are all skinnier than the women they are with and have a sort of prance that could resemble teetering on high heels.

Are men, as the researchers say, a dying breed? Is it just me or are men becoming more and more feminine? Where did all the 'Stigs' of the world go? Do you like this new trend in feminine masculinity or do you prefer the grunting, muscle rippling Tarzans that used to swing from the trees?

What makes me laugh is those skinny fools who wear sleeveless tops even in cold weather to show off what they think is muscles.

Also guys who check themselves out when they have piss weak physiques and are ugly lol that makes me laugh

I hear you CB - I just do not understand it myself! And I cannot understand how the girls like it either?! Surely you would like to be with someone who you think, maybe, could protect you? One smack to one of thses blokes and they would snap like a twig, although the guy smacking then would probably be just as twiggy so............

Thanks for your comment

Cheers David, thought a change would be good.

You are right, women have become more independent and started moving into more masculine roles. I think that the vast majority of women are still feminine though.

Agree 100% about feeling protected by your man! ! !

Although you cannot help if you are born skinny, you can still be macho. You can still act like a man and be manly...that is the difference. I do not really care what the guy looks like (although Andy Garcia is quite a hunk, if I do say so myself ) he should just behave like a guy. Have some grunt.

The answer is yes may be some males are being encouraged to follow a path which includes 'male blush' and 'man bags' but is just too much like hard work.
Puting on a pair of jeans and a wrinkled teeshirt is so much easier.
No man wants grow old and look like Boy George but they don't mind looking like Klint Eastwood or even Bogart.

OH well, can't really be helped can it? Stupid men apparently have 'rights' now, they can act all girly.
18. January 27th 2007 @ 06:43. SocialCommentator Says:
The media no longer portrays successful men as being no nonsense tough guys. Instead it seems that according to television which plays a far more dominant role in society than it once did, to get the girl you must be sensitive, caring, well groomed etc.

Too many female directors in movies and too many chick flicks out there. This gives women ideas and expectations.
19. January 27th 2007 @ 07:09. Ahmed Says:
The wrong ideas, but perhaps the right expectations

I hate female directors, not to sound sexist, but the best movies all have male directors.

21. January 27th 2007 @ 07:40. Ahmed Says:
No I'm a fuckwad, or a cuntwad (if your david).

I actually blame the system that forces female directors to make carppy movies, since the only other thing they can do is go to the next extreme which sucks even more.
22. January 27th 2007 @ 07:45. Lily Says:
sooo, the system forces the female director to make the crappy movies, does it?? and you know this...how?? Ahmed?

since you are the fuckwad expert on directors, could you tell me what makes a male director, a better one?

23. January 27th 2007 @ 07:47. Ahmed Says:
Well for some reason or another you don't see average mainstream movies directed by women unles it is a chick flick. I don't know how and why, but thats the system.

I never said male directors were better, but certainly the greatest movies in history have all had male directors, are you denying that?
24. January 27th 2007 @ 09:31. Lilla Says:
Hi Ash,

..very interesting post you've got here, good question.

I can remember someone saying that you know you're getting old when either the policemen look young, or you can't tell the difference between a boy and a girl...

I remember in the 70's my parents had trouble distinguishing, especially when David Bowie, Elton John and Garry Glitter graced the TV screen! I knew they were boys though...

I don't think much has changed, except now I have trouble distinguishing sometimes. But I can still define the difference within each "fashion" group whatever they are called!

Each to their own, I don't think anything has changed... except me *lol*

I think that gender confusion may also be a subjective problem of age, rather than cult or trend and think men are still men and women are still women to a very lage "difference," as Damo says... do you think it's just, outward show?

Your liberated, feminine-metrosexual, vaguely-emo, non-gothic friend, who wouldn't like to share makeup with her partner, and still likes a man to look like one!

32. January 27th 2007 @ 10:06. Ash Says:
I have to disagree with you SC,
There have always been chick flicks out there and women do not have such high expectations. We know that men in the movies are made up and we would all like to be swept off our feet on moonlit beaches with heart wrenching music playing in the background.

I used to date a very manly man, very macho and every part man that he was supposed to be. HOwever, he also used to take me for romantic candlelit dinners, we used to have conversations under starry skies, I got surprise flowers....all of that soppy stuff that is just in the movies. To him these were not meeting my expectations, for I had none, this was just moments that we could have that reminded us of the love that we shared, moments that we could take that were just ours. They had nothing to do with what was going on in the movies.
Thanks for your thoughts though, even if I do not share them
Ash
33. January 27th 2007 @ 10:13. Ash Says:
Lily and Ahmed, please go back to your corners, boxing gloves off!!!!

Perhaps all the men have directed the most successful movies because it has never been a woman`s place to go into that line of business. There are a lot of emerging women directors who are making a name for themselves in good quality movies and at the same time not all chick flicks are directed by women.

Just a request Ahmed, please don`t use that C word on my blog. I really find it offensive and despise it with a passion. There are a lot of other more descriptive words that you are more than welcome to use, besides that one.

Thanks for your debate both of you, hope you have cooled off now

*lol-ing* Lilla - are you trying to say I am getting on in years now? ha ha I don`t need reminding my friend!! I found a wrinkle the other day...and a grey hair.....ARGHH!!!! Next I will need a zimmer frame and a glass by my bedside table to put my teeth in at night

I don`t understand all these terms that are applied to people now. We never had that when we were growing up. we were just guys and gals...simple!

Is it just outward show, as you say? Perhaps a new fashion trend?> NOt sure. However, what I do know is that men do not behave like men, that is what I find confusing about it all. I do not really care what they look like, (within reason of course), it is just their mannerisms that bug me.

Your liberated, feminine-metrosexual, vaguely-emo, non-gothic friend, who wouldn't like to share makeup with her partner, and still likes a man to look like one!

That is ok you were not to know unless I had said something. I just find that word really offensive.....ugh! shudders!!!

It is a woman thing, we are very protective over our species. I don`t think men actually realise what we women go through, in the home and in the work place. I cannot speak for Lily herself, but I can as a woman. Even though it may seem we are all equal, trust me we are nowhere near, not even close.

Hello Ash honey...

Hope you had a good weekend.

From my feminist and feminine point of view, I like a man to be a Man.
No need to explain what this is.
A Woman knows what a Man is.
A Man feels what a Man is.

(and it's got nothing to do with archaic notions of chauvanism. I am perfectly capable of kicking a door down....I still like it being held open for me)

There seems to be a cycle of androgyny.
Remember early 80s, mascara ruled on boys (Duran Duran and Bowie anyone?)...also this generation teen girls seem to prefer slight build boys...perhaps a not wanting to be physically overwhelmed thing (my 5'11" 16yo Amazon daughter seems to find shorter and slighter boys appealing...her father and brothers are all 6' and above Rugby titans...)

I do think that all that getting in touch with their feminine side stuff that men were forced to absorb has filtered down and watered down masculinity.

However, I also feel Masculinity cannot be judged by physique alone.
It's determined by mind and manner.
A glint in the eye that is brilliant, witty, loving and dangerous....

These are boys you write about....It's fashion.
The Metrosexual Fraternity.

BUT....the Retrosexual Man....that's Eternity.

Men are not a dying breed.
As long as there are Women.

Dusk

ps...yes I am biased but I am in love with my Ultimate Man...my husband. 6'2" of pure masculinity, brain and brawn.

pps. Would The Duke still be The Man if he was Marion?

ppps. My best friend is a gay man and a very straight man he is too. Show him a moisturiser and he'll show you the door....maintenance is a different thing to embellishment.

READ MY COMMENT...I never made any reference to men being gay. I never brought that topic up, so please don't accuse. All I said is estrogen(soy and tofu) could be what are making men become more femminine, and I stick to that conclusion.

wouldn't men just erm... get rid of it? The body gets rid of what it doesn't need.

Thanks signals not all men eat soy and tofu, although I understand what you are saying. There has been a lot of talk about other substances like the plastics and styrafoam that food is found in these days containing such hormones too. Our diets are vital - how different the world would be if we were not buzzing around on all this stuff - it would be a lot quieter without the kids eating at those preservatives, that is for sure!

Well I live here in America, it's an epidemic here. Now I guess since the trend in Australia the men are being to feminine it's now a panademic(sp) A world wide dilema. Sadess.

I can't watch TV any more here b/c it's sickning to see all those effeminate males on TV. Hec even the new Taco Bell commercial has 2 male lions talking effeminate.(Well it's was one show on TV called the Bernie Mac Show, the guy was all masculine and manly,it's sad b/c some women who had issues with manly men being head of the household did not like the show. Those are the women who did not have strong fathers in the home. Sadness again)

Anyway I never will forget when I was in college I overheard some young ladies say they want masculinity and manliness;that's what they are attracted too. I'm a man and I feel sorry for the young men and women here that are coming up because they are being confused by the media on gender roles.

Hi Ash,

Just checking for some real entertaining good reads here and jumped into this blog. I was taken aback when men are so conscious about their looks, especially their "hair". Where I live, men here put on gels or whatever they call it, and looked like an anime' (a japanese cartoon). Maybe because we're in the 21st century? Or perhaps it's the increasing connectivity of people and their ways of life.

Have watched Matt Damon's Bourne Ultimatum today, he looks great!
