So channel Nine gave us the season finale in a straight up two hour viewing to which I discovered that two hours of this show is just too much for me to handle in one sitting. I think my brain started to leak out of my ears after the hour and a half mark.
So, let's have a look at the finale and the season that was Cashmere Mafia Season 1.
The finale itself, even though run over two hours, felt incredibly rushed. Breakups, exes returning, divorce proceedings, sex tapes, lesbian babies, drinking....just too much! The first hour though I found more entertaining than the second.
So Zoe quit her job. It's so Lynette Huffman in Desperate Housewives, the power mummy quits her time consuming job after missing a promotion and becomes the power mummy at home, but its working. Plus more Zoe screen time means more yummy hubby screen time!
The break-up between the lesbian mommies was bound to happen. If I remember correctly, I picked it last week! Didn't see the ex coming back on the scene though, and as much as I like Caitlin, her breakup scene was un-believable. I didn't really think that she was that into Alicia for her to break down in tears when the relationship ended and the whole fashion week storyline....gag. Talk about a filler topic! Did anyone else hear the Rogue Traders playing during the fashion show? Natalie Bassingthwaite REALLY is everywhere!
There was also a first tonight, Juliet made me laugh. Her first meeting with the divorce lawyers was quite entertaining, to the point where a few giggles came out though I'm pretty sure thats when the brain leaking issue began, though scenes involving the billionaire were contrived and painfully boring. Apparently, Juliet can see dollar signs over looks.
Mia, mia mia mia mia mamma mia.....You would have thought that a smart girl like Mia would have known that the ex hubby to be, was only back on the scene when he got a big boys job like hers, and not really wanting to get back together for old times sake, and getting back to filler story lines, whats with the dog?! It did evoke a funny line about Chinese families and pets though.
Overall, after a slow and shaky start, Cashmere Mafia did settle nicely into my weekly viewing habits, and will probably be missed until it returns with a new season. It was Sex and the City, without the sex and well...quite a bit of the city, it did aim high, and while it didn't reach it's potential, it did come close and over time, could reach it's aim.
Thank-god the Easter break is over and regular scheduled television is back on! My first port of call - tonights episode of Cashmere Mafia.
Episode four and the girls are finding themselves spending less and less time together and more and more time ruining their personal lives with silly choices that seemed forced and only put in to push the girls into new story lines.
I must say, I am enjoying this series more and more with every new episode that comes along, and even though Juliet /Miranda Otto annoy the beejesus outta me and sometimes the outfits and hairstyles are a little "I've been attacked by Edward Scissor hands" I seem to be happy to enjoy this little train that could.
BUT
Why is Caitlins girlfriend of four weeks, Alicia, suddenly turning up pregnant? One would have to think that such an event would happen maybe a couple of years into a relationship, but yet, Alicia spews out this line about wanting to have a baby, and the time was right which pushed Caitlin into having a one night stand with some local trade....me thinks this is more of a cop out so that Caitlin can leave Lesbos and go back to breederville, and while on the subject of Caitlin, whats with the 80's metallic outfits?
Shock and horror! I actually liked Juliet tonight! Perhaps Miranda Otto found a heater and somehow overcame the coldness she had been oozing in previous episodes as Juliet Draper. Her scenes with her look-at-me-look-at-me daughter were warm and homely and watchable. Juliet just needs to dump the cheating husband and we could be seeing a change of heart from this viewer!
The cast of Cashmere Mafia
Oh Mia Mia Mia. I don't know if I had some bad reception on my television or if the Mexican food I had for dinner was blurring my vision but was Lucy Liu looking overly Asian? Perhaps it was the garish shade of lipstick and the try hard smartie glasses she was wearing? Moving on from that, Mia has become the most annoying character at the moment. Her job bores me, her boss and colleagues bore me and her romance choices bore me. You know it must be bad when the clothing she is wearing has me more interested than the storyline.
Last but not least, dear Zoe and her work versus home dilemmas continue and time after time, Zoe for some god only knows reason, chooses the job over the hot hubby and happy home. That is until she finds a happy family snap and guilt inducing post it note from her hubby nicely stashed in her suitcase whilst on a business trip with her 'work hubby' that basically kicked her in the nads and off she left, leaving her 'work hubby' to play the one handed flute.
Next week sees the 2 hour season finale where one of the girls misplaces a sex tape! Oh my how Paris!
I have been so busy the past few weeks, it wasn't till last night that I managed to find the time to catch up on my tv viewing and because of this, this post will be a mixed bag of sorts.
"so you think you can dance"
well it was good to see that the dance styles on offer to our hopefulls were somewhat generic. no mashing of styles to confuse not only the dancers but the viewers themselves which is why we saw some impressive numbers this week. side note to judge jason...loose the futuristic jackets!!
"cashmere mafia"
these ladies have almost won me over. the outfits are being toned down (thankgod!) and there's a bit of good ole' humor being thrown into the mix too, but it's still miranda otto that I have the biggest issue with. juliet seems like an interesting character, but Otto is still insisting on playing her with such snobberish mannerisms, the character seems the lest likely to fit into the group.
"desperate housewives"
still going strong. brilliant episode. Dana Delaney is starting to outshine the other housewives!

I'm a stickler for a good tv show that has elements of comedy and drama. That make me laugh and want to know whats going to happen next week, who's doing what and who's doing who. Melrose Place used to do it for me (and is again thanks to it's release on DVD) but now it's Desperate Housewives that I can't miss.
I think most people will agree that since the first season finale, the show took a bit of a down turn during seasons two and three. Whilst they weren't bad, they lacked the finesse that was season one, but I still tuned in week after week catching up with the ladies of Wisteria Lane

I really didn't want to post about a reality television program that searches for Australia's best dancer, but as I am a watcher of the program, there was this compulsion to say something about tonights episode.
Firstly, Mary Murphy....as much as she is loud and in your face enthusiastic, she really did bring a much needed boost to the judges table this week. She made some interesting comments, in which is part of the reason behind this post

"Lesbians are the new babies" - Mia Mason on Cashmere Mafia
I will say that episode 2 of Cashmere Mafia was a lot better than the pilot (Though most shows tend to be like that) but I still haven't completely come around since my review of the pilot episode

I had planned on dedicating this post to tonights episode of Cashmere Mafia, but that will come tomorrow night.
Instead, I'm going to talk about Nip/Tuck (airing Mondays @ 10.30pm on Channel 9). First off, shame on channel 9 airing season 3 even though this season has been out on DVD for nearly 6 months now! I can only assume that most fans would have gone out and bought it after channel 9 took it off the air mid-season

As a somewhat dedicated television viewer, I've found that over the years, my taste in shows have somewhat matured from the easy to laugh at comedies and no-brainer reality shows to smart comedies and thinker dramas.
I talk of such shows as 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Nip/Tuck, Eyes, Boston Legal, The Comeback, Weeds, Dead Like Me and The Sopranos

I had an interesting conversation this morning, with a friend of mine about all things television which ended up in a friendly debate about female characters in television series. Who we liked, who we hated, who was strong and who brought about change. I thought it would make an interesting post on what ended up being the top 10 female characters that have appeared on television in the last few years.
In no particular order

Being a huge fan of Darren Stars previous jaunts, "Melrose Place" and "Sex and the City", I was chomping at the bit to see Stars new television venture, The hugely anticipated Cashmere Mafia starring Lucy Liu, Miranda Otto, Bonnie Sommerville and Frances O'Connor.
Cashmere Mafia which premiered tonight lacks what it's predecessor (Sex and the City) had...a likable cast. Where SATC's Carrie Bradshaw and the girls were enchanting and bewitching from the onset, Cashmere's femme fatales are badly dressed wannabes who find any excuse to get together for a booze up and gossip session
