Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild (2008)

Having watched Another Gay Movie when it was first released, I had high expectations for Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild. I wasn't expecting Shakespear or Wilde, but I was expecting much more than this film delivered.
The opening dream sequence, where 3 of the 4 original characters are killed off in an orgy and the character of Nico (Johan Blechman) details how scared he was because he had a dream where 3 of the stars of the original were told not to come back by the agents because doing 2 gay films in a row might make people think the actors were gay was kind of amusing in a bitchy way. Considering the amount of media coverage that particular situation recieved I thought it was an interesting thing to include in the opening scene.
The basic premise of Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild is Nico, Andy (Jake Mosser), Griff (Aaron Michael Davies) and Jared (Jimmy Clabots) are all now well and truly not virgins - having taken care of that in the first film - and are heading to Fort Lauderdale to partake in a bit of Gay Spring Break.
Griff and Jared are still a couple, trying to figure out if they should open their relationship to fun with other people. Andy is now a self confessed power bottom and looking to spend his Spring Break on his knees and Nico is searching for someone to steal his heart.
What I thought was a cameo by Perez Hilton turned out to be an overplayed role of a born again Christian gay man who turns up constantly berating the other characters for having casual sex. He see's the light while entertaining priest Jim Verraros in an aeroplane toilet when he is hit on the head.
Love or loath Perez Hilton that role was annoying and while I appreciate it was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek mock of the born again fundamentalist christians who delight in running around telling the GLBT community they're going to burn in hell, I thought it was painful to watch.
The film is scattered with cameo's of gay celebrities and porn stars, and I have to say there was something unexpectedly endearing in Stan the Merman (Brett Corrigan) who teaches Nico that love can come from the most unexpected places.
The film has plenty of eye candy, but the premise of a week of annoymous sex as a form of competition to win a weekend away with a naked Italian does nothing to dispel stereotypes that gay people are nothing but whores who'll sleep with anyone.
Musical numbers about sexual transmitted diseases, oversized crabs and golden showers may seem funny but there was somthing about it all that just felt like it fell flat.
The cast - new and old alike - did well with their roles and a script that was flimsy. I think what annoyed me the most with this film is that it could have been a hell of a lot better. Infecting rivals with crabs, replacing lube with super glue and repetitious jokes from the first film really made it feel like it was under-developed.
Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild is light and fluffy. You will get a laugh or two out of it, and as I said earlier the cast were quite good and really quite charming. Overall what let it down was the script. Considering how good the first one was, this one had a lot to live up to, and sadly, it just didn't.
There's a comment at the end about a third film Another Gay Movies: Gays Strike Back, referencing the fact it is sending them all to space. I can't see any references to a third film being in production as yet, but I do hope they make one. I just hope they take the time to write a decent script for the third film. Actually I think they should set the third one in Australia. Another Gay Sequel: Gays Go Down seems a fitting title.
