Girl-
It is I standing here…
Showing you this (heart)
And you stand there holding onto that (point outside)
Why can’t you see me pouring?
When all I do is melt
Turn and look at yourself with your
Own eyes and maybe,
Just maybe
You will see me within you.

Boy-
Maybe I can no longer see…
I did hide you…
While hiding myself,
Because that’s all I knew to do
I tried
But now everyone is gone
Including you
I stand here talking out loud
And not to nothing
I talk with this (heart)
Even if you cannot see it…

Girl-
Different is all I see
Is that right?
The difference is
I see differently than you.
I will never hide again
In life… In flight…
In anyone’s eyes
I am who I am
And I should not be locked with a key.

Boy-
I do not hold this ‘special’ key!
Take the so- called key
And unlocked you may be.
You could leave
You could have always left
So why don’t you ever surrender
Surrender to the guard
You call me!

Girl-
Surrender I did
When you lied to me
Surrender my heart
Was not what was supposed to be?
Surrendered my name to you
Along with the rest
I didn’t know then
What I indeed know now
So why would I give in
To the battle that has strived so long.

Boy-
I never have battled
Never laid my hand
On the brokenness of your body
Only replenished the pain
Of purple amongst the pink
And taken only what you gave
Giving was all I received
Which is what you decided a long time ago.

Girl-
I wish I knew what you tell me
Would it solve all my problems?
Would it?
I fall for the hidden agendas
Time and time again
But pick myself up
To dust the shades of dirt
To make a fresh new start.

Boy-
A fresh new start you say?
As if saying the words
Will ultimately control you
And you’re thinking, moving and shaking.
You will go forth
With as much as you have left behind
And know you will never
Scrape me from underneath your fingernails.

Girl-
My fingernails are clean!
Clean of the ugly
And the sour.
Why do you place that upon me?
Knowing very well it is
The hurtful truth.


Boy-
You yell. You scream…
And expect me to say nothing!
One by one
Every breathing moment of the day.
Why are you ridding
Something that you cannot force away.
Cos can’t you see I’m obviously here to stay!

Girl-
If I do not shake my ‘clean’ hand dry
I will leave a stain on the edge
Of your driveway
That you will not see fly.
Live how you wish
But don’t tell me how to live mine
Or for that matter
Don’t tell me how my emotions
Play within my own head!

Boy-
Why do you keep questioning me?
If you don’t want to be questioned yourself?

Girl-
Every girl needs a push to grieve…
To ache
To say goodbye.
But not this girl
This girl has done her time
In the gaol of life
And now I’m throwing away that key.

Boy-
Hidden?... Locked?...
You have always had the right to
Throw away this supposed key!
But yet you hold onto it.
Like you hold onto me.
And the love that floats between us.

Girl-
Love is supposed to be good
And not for throwing away.
So how come I want to rid you of my life.
And why won’t you let me?
Because I am hidden
And a girl should never felt hidden
From the loving world she belongs to.

Boy-
All I can say is
If you don’t hide with me
I’m sure someone else
Will stand in that spot
Because you can’t escape
The never ending spiral
You call love!

Girl-
How did I know you would say that?
Because you are male
And I want you out
Now
My heart is broken.
And I want you to know
You broke it.
