I spend alot of time inside my head but it gets lonely in there by myself. So I invite you to share with me my grey matter, an offering, if you will, of my brain molecules. They're quite tasty. Honest.

Well Damo, I will definetely use your arguments on why we're not socialists to American conservatives when discussing our health care and minimum wages...

Damo, friends from former Yugoslavia have told me there is absolutely no difference between Australia and their pre-war, "communist" country bar the state ownership of business and utilities.

Does that make our country socialist?

I don't think our healthcare system, setting of minimum wages and welfare payments to the cost of living are socialist either but Jonathon and SL may disagree with you.

No, I don't have a salaried job. I get paid well for what I do but it's by the hour and I work hard for it.

I do know that our real unemployment rate is much higher but then, so is the real unemploment rate of America's. Ours will go up but theirs will balloon very soon.

Talk to any conservative in America and they will tell you that there should be no safety nets in terms of minimum wages or health care, this is all anti-capitalism.

There is no doubt that the problem of homeless people here in Australia is shocking, I agree but we are miles ahead of the United States in terms of affordable health care, the minimum wage and the state of the economy.

Socialism is very bad for my country in Australia.

Our health care system, similar to the one in France means we are ranked far above the United States by the World Health Organisation.

The tightly controlled, anti-capitalist regulation of our banks means our four major banks are amongst the top twelve in the world.

With our mininum wages of $14.31 per hour and welfare system we are sitting at a, gosh, absolutely whopping 4.5% unemployment rate whilst the unemployment rate of America's is currently 5.6%.

Oh yes.

Socialism is very bad indeed.

This is from ACORN's website:

Senator Allied with ACORN as Recently as 2006, Now Turns Cold Shoulder

October 13, 2008, Miami, FL - U.S. Senator John McCain's recent attacks on the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) are puzzling given his historic support for the organization and its efforts on behalf of immigrant Americans. As recently as February 20, 2006, Senator McCain was the keynote speaker at an ACORN-sponsored Immigration Rally in Miami, Florida at Miami Dade College – Wolfson Campus.

The rally, co-sponsored by ACORN in partnership with the New American Opportunity campaign (NAOC), Catholic League Services – Archdiocese of Miami, Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Miami Dade College, People for the American Way/Mi Familia/Vota en Accion, the Service Employees International Union, and UNITE/HERE, was intended to call attention to the need for comprehensive immigration reform.

Senator McCain spoke at the rally attended by hundreds of ACORN members, most of whom were dressed in the red shirts typical of its members. Senator McCain's speech focused on the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, a bipartisan, comprehensive reform bill, which McCain sponsored with Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA).

Bertha Lewis, Chief Organizer of ACORN, said, "It has deeply saddened us to see Senator McCain abandon his historic support for ACORN and our efforts to support the goals of low-income Americans. Maybe it is out of desperation that Senator McCain has forgotten that he was for ACORN before he was against ACORN; he was for immigration reform before he was against immigration reform; and he was a maverick before he became erratic. We were thrilled to partner with him to help reform the outdated immigration laws in this country, and were pleased to work closely with him on this issue."

Lewis continued, "We expected Senator McCain to support our efforts to give voice to millions of Americans who have never participated in an election before. We are surprised at his efforts to vilify an organization that, until recently, he saw as an ally. Maybe this surprise attack and change of heart is indicative of his state of mind, and the way he would govern."

Senator McCain and his campaign have recently launched a series of coordinated attacks on ACORN, the nation’s largest community organization of low-and moderate-income families.

Ms. Lewis went on to say that, "We are sure that the extremists he is trying to get into a froth will be even more excited to learn that John McCain stood shoulder to shoulder with ACORN, at an ACORN co-sponsored event, to promote immigration reform."

Senator McCain was joined at the rally by Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL), Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL), leaders from both political parties, immigrant communities, and members of labor, business, and religious organizations.

on Baby Boom at the Alaskan Governor's Mansion

Well, since she couldn't cut it as a real politician, earning enough to warrant payment from votes but unable to claim a seat I guess she had to make a buck somehow didn't she?

I disagree she set the agenda for anything at all. I think the only people excited about Pauline Hanson were some people in Queensland and the media who whipped themselves into a frenzy every time she spoke.

For ordinary people outside of Queensland, she really wasn't all that important, even in her heyday.

Pauline Hanson earned over $200,000 from running in elections but only declared around $35,000 and has not paid the extra back.

Do you believe that her 4% vote in the last Federal election in Queensland has set the agenda for Australian politics?

"When the media attacked Pauline Hanson for being a “dumb racist” the thousands of people who believed as she did took it personally and it transformed Hanson into a bonafide political player".

Bonafide?

So bonafide she asked for political donations, pocketed the money, never paid it back and was subsequently jailed for fraud?

Unfortunately our government sees dollar signs on our ovaries as well.

When a goods and services tax was introduced in Australia in 2000, products such as tampons and pads were not exempt even though lubricants and condoms did not attract the tax.

Womens menstruation is expected to raise up to $20 million dollars in this country alone in tax each year.
