Demolished Demons

April 21st 2008 14:45

The Melbourne football club is in a lot of trouble in the 2008 season and the future for that matter. Melbourne are yet to win a game this year and the signs aren’t looking good, but I think that the club only has its self to blame. To begin the 2008 season Melbourne named David Neitz as the club captain again in my opinion it was a bad move, yes he was a superstar of the AFL in past years but Melbourne need to look at entering a stage of change and I think that comes from a young talented captain. David Neitz is near the end of his AFL career therefore they should choose someone younger as their new club leader for the future maybe someone like Green and players alike. The Melbourne coaching staffs needs to start looking at the main problems in the team such as their forward line. Russell Robertson needs to be asked whether he wants to play football or be a musician because his playing performances haven’t been up to scratch lately, David Neitz’s form has also been lacking he has only kicked 3 goals in the last 5 games that’s not enough for a key forward. The backline is struggling as well with Carroll having to do most of the defensive work down back. The best thing Melbourne have done is giving Dean bailey the coaching job I think that starts the change for the Melbourne football club and hopefully in the next few years they find some success but until then I cant see them going very far.

Andrew Welsh

Bomber Andrew Welsh looks set to return to essendons senior side this week to play his first 2008 Afl game.Welsh is feeling a big relief returning to the side this week after he suffered a hamstring injury before the season had got under way.Welsh said ''it is just really good to back playing again It was frustrating to be left out of the side after a couple of hamstring injuries at the start of the season, so it will be good to just get out there and hopefully get a win up.''
It's definitely hard having to sit in the crowd, particularly given the young and exciting team we have at the moment. But it is good to see the hard work that everyone has been putting in has been paying off."
"Hopefully I can get out there this week and start contributing to the positive on-field results."

Welsh has played a couple of strong games for the bendigo bombers in the vfl one of which he kicked 5 goals.''I think it will benefit the team by having another leading forward in attack," Welsh said.
''My ability to play up forward is something that I have been working on at the end of last year and over the preseason this year.''
I don't think my performance was too bad over the NAB Cup and hopefully this week I can help Nathan Lovett-Murray and Adam McPhee with the forward line and try to snag a few."

The bombers are set to take on the heavily backed saints at the telstra dome with a few players back with expirence it should be a great game.''i know i've got my ticket''

Lloyd to play against Saints

April 16th 2008 12:29

According to a club source Essendon spearhead full foward Matthew Lloyd will return and play against the saints this friday night at the telstra dome.Lloyd missed lastweeks game against the bulldogs because of a suspected torn calf muscle.Scans early this week confirmed that there was a build up of fluid in his calf muscle and no tear, much to Lloyds delight.Essendon coach Matthew Knights today told the herald sun that ''Lloyd wouldnt be playing unless he was 100% '' and that he would have a further test on thursay night at training. The source tells me that Lloyd is fit to play and will most likely be in the selected line up tomorrow night. The bombers face St kilda friday night at the dome which should be a close game going by the last time they played in the nab cup earlier this year.Lloyd will provide relief to the essendon foward line that has been struggling with injury since the start of the year with key forward Scott Lucas doing a knee injury in the first game and a number of other forward players doing hamstrings.Essendon are looking into the cause of a number of injurys to players this year narrowing it down to fatigue during game breaks and hard surfaces at windy hill and the telstra dome according to the Essendon coach Matthew knights.Another couple of bombers could be making a return this week including Andrew Welsh (hamstring) and Angus Monfries (food sickness) having these players and Matthew Lloyd return should give the bombers a fighting chance against the backed favorite Saints.

Swan Barry Hall banned for 7 matchs

April 16th 2008 10:27
Sydney swan superstar Barry Hall has been banned for 7 matches by the AFL match review panel .The ban comes after an incident involving Hall and west coast eagle Brent Staker last weekend in which Hall punched Staker in the head. After being banned for 7 matches Hall apologised for his actions which has tarnished the game and said he was ''very remorseful'' about the whole incident. The hearing went for around 70 minutes when jury members Stewart Lowe,David Pittman and Wayne schimmelbusch gave the verdict.Hall who was having a good start to the season will now miss the next 7 games against geelong, nth melbourne, bulldogs, essendon,p ort adel, richmond and west coast. The swans take on last years premiers geelong this round and will have to do it without Hall up forward. This incident will no doubt put strain on the team and coaching staff before they make there way down to melbourne to face geelong at shell staduim this weekend.Im sure that Paul Roos will try and fire up the swans side before they face the hard task of facing geelong who are undefeated so far in 2008 and have all their star players in tact.Hall will have a month to ponder his actions and hopefully comeback ready to play footy and concentrate on what matters most winning football games.
