No expert on this but from what i've read protein should encourage the body to use fat as fuel, carbs/fat on the other hand make your body store fat. There is some strange chemistry going on ...

Couldnt agree more, muscle burn calories, even when you are resting - ie putting on a few pounds of muscle will make you loose weight faster, not to mention getting a more toned body.
