Type of traveller by star sign

February 9th 2010 09:20
Jetstar did a study into traveller's star signs and where they are more likely to go, according to Herald Sun - Jetstar study finds the type of getaway you fancy may depend on your star sign

Why would Jetstar even do this study and what benefit is this to them I have no idea, but I feel this study hardly justifies.

Yes, star signs may depict our personalities, so in comparison should also influence our decision on travelling.

However I feel that basing the study only on their own passengers mean that they were only concentrating on those who are looking for a bargain to start with.

I am in fact discriminating the type of people who travel on Jetstar, but since the airline concentrate their image on low fares and no service, I can only assume those who choose to travel internationally with Jetstar only look at the cheap side of things.

What about the more luxury/richer of the population? Perhaps a more generous Taurean may travel differently?

Also because the study is based on Jetstar passengers it would only cover those who travel to destinations Jetstar offers. So just because the normally Aries who like to travel long haul destinations (according to the report) happens to be travelling with Jetstar at the time of report, doesn't mean that just three months ago they had spent time in New Zealand and have flown another airline instead. (Which would not have been captured in this study).

Anyway. what do you think? Are they right about your type?

Cat owners are smarter!

February 9th 2010 02:47
I keep stressing that I love animals - cats, dogs, birds, fish, goats, whales and cute monsters, but something caught my eyes that couldn't stop me from smiling about being a cat owner:

Cats v Dogs: Answer's a matter of degrees - Timaru Herald NZ
More cat owners have degrees than dog lovers - BBC news

The articles claim that perhaps it's more of a lifestyle choice as busy degree holding professionals get too busy to take care of dogs and cats are the perfect alternative besides gold fish.

It also has to do with whether the owner has a large family with children but are sole/couple occupany living status.

In my case, I started off always wanting a dog. One day by chance a few stray kittens were caught and I was told that they were straight off to the RSPCA. 3 week old kittens would not survive the RSPCA so I decided to adopt one to save it, and now I am a proud owner of 5 year old Kitty.

And so it happens - I have always lived in tiny little apartment/shared accommodation so there is never room for a dog.

Eventually I would like to have a dog when we get a proper house. But for now - being smart will have to do

It's not what you know...

February 9th 2010 02:33
Reading through the many criterias that come with job descriptions and I often wonder if there are actually people out there who is actually 'extremely capable' of all the applications, technology, methodology and theories that are listed with some of the job ads.

There may be, yes. But that doesn't mean you don't stand a chance if you didn't know one of the listed abilities.

The old saying - it's not what you know, but often it's how you know. Employers not only look for those who can do the job, but also those who have the potential to pick up new things quickly.

More and more employers are looking at a more long term approach, as technology and metholodies are now evloving faster in the modern day. Sometimes, showing potential of curiosity and learning can also gain you brownie points in the job searching process.

Show that you are open to new ideas, have the ability to adapt to new environments and willingness to learn is just as good as being an expert on something.

Of course - it is also important to observe the actual wording of the old saying: It's who you know. Networking is an extremely important part of anyone's career. This is especially important during job search and while dealing with hiring agents. Sometimes networking with a good agent can be beneficial even if you don't get the job you originally applied for. Agents do keep records up to 6 months and if you make an impression they'll think of you first when a relevant job comes along.

Good luck!

Travel revisited: Taroko Gorge

February 4th 2010 02:24
Sitting at my desk at work I day dream of being somewhere else. My dad is on a flight tonight to Taiwan for the upcoming Chinese new year celebrations and so I thought I'd revisit an article on Taroko Gorge in Taiwan, a place I wrote about on Travel String back in 2007:

Sisterly love

February 4th 2010 01:53
Younger sisters are pains.

They expect everything to be done for them. They don't accept any responsibility at home, and they they expect you to be responsible for them

Speaking of marriages...

January 25th 2010 07:52
I picked up a MX today. Those who don't know, it's a free daily newspaper pretty much repeating the news that is reported in the major newspapers and sources.

Pretty useless actually but I pick one up for the train ride home anyway

Weight issue for flight attendents

January 25th 2010 01:57
Back to that weight issue again and this time the fire is on the flight attendents.

If we were to consider the weight of the passengers, then perhaps we also need to limit the weight of the flight attendents

on Bubbles for your First Dance

February 9th 2010 09:06
I had a thought that I would give everyone at the wedding a small bottle of bubble liquid to play with while we are announced husband and wife. The dance idea is great tho!

But I am not sure if I can be bothered to go into this trouble. Afterall - I am paying a resort to organise everything now

on Rockmelon - My New Fruity Obsession

February 7th 2010 22:17
Interesting. I don't associate rockmelon as a savoury sort - I love it just by itself!
But then again, I saw on the Chef and the Cook (The Cook and the Chef?) the other day and he was making grilled watermelons.
So I guess anything is possible!!!!

on Speaking of marriages...

According to this book, Anonymous, that any women over 30 who are single and says they are happy - are apparently lying!

You know what? There are good things about being single and being in a relationship. And I agree being single is not a disease, it sometimes can be a lot of fun!
