to tat or not to tat

So I have gone on several interviews where I was well qualified for the job. Ideally I would walk into the interview with a smile and the skills that employers want and they would hire. At first things seemed to go fine with these interviews, but then the interviewer's eyes moved down to my knuckles and arms and the interview was over. Why? Well I have tattoos, not full sleeves, but enough to get noticed. My plan is to get more, but will I ever work again? Now back to the job offer and the interviewer did not cast me out of their establishment throwing holy water on me, but they did make me feel uncomfortable. It is always the same thing. "You have tattoos so you have to cover them because we do not want out customers thinking that tattoos are ok behavior. They tell me that I have to wear long sleeves while everyone else can show their skin. I feel discriminated against. I have color on my arms and I am not ashamed of that. If I were hispanic or black and they made me wear long sleeves then that would be discrimination, but tattoos are a choice so I suppose it is not discrimination. It really sucks because I am a nice, friendly person with a plethora of knowledge yet I won't get the job because some other person that is well less qualified will get the position only on the account of the fact that they aren't creative with their bodies like I am. It really pisses me off. Sorry to be so blunt, but I am tired of other people only seeing my colored skin and saying that I am not as good as they are. Quite frankly I shouldn't have to cover my arms unless I want to or it is too damn cold out. On interviews I do dress professionally as that is what you do on one. It is not because I have tattoos it is just interviews are a way to make a first impression and I want to make the best one that I can just like everyone else, tattoos or not. I wish people would just look at me for me and for what I can offer and not what I choose to tattoo on me. To all of you out there that think tattooed people are nothing, but trashy, uneducated people who don't hold down jobs, but can do drugs faithfully I am one person that enjoys the art of tattooing and would like society to take a look at themselves before they judge me. You are no better than me as I am no better than you. Employers take notice. One day the majority of jobs will be ran by those with body art and we will do a damn fine job of taking care of your children, defending you in court, operating on you in the ER and everything in between.
