Aristotle can be seen in ‘Seven’
The film seven fits perfectly into Aristotle’s narrative definition, which is a serious of events that are linked together in a number of ways, the murderer who kills a person representing one of the seven deadly sins. Including cause and effect time and place, this refers to the murders and the detectives who can not prevent the murderer from striking because the can not figure out this information. Something that happens in the first event causes the action of the second event, and so on, usually moving forward in time. It exists to convey perspective. The first killing led to the second and so on.
The plot of Seven also agrees with Aristotle the one day when everything comes together when you have clarity. This day is obviously when the killer hands himself in. From here you find out all you need to know about the killer. We can also see necessity, probability and inevitability through out this storey. In Oedipus Rex and Seven you can see the elements that create the perfect plot. The inverted pyramid, as you go up have the rising action, the climax, then the falling action/unravelling/denouement. The climax of seven is marked by reversal. Brad Pitt (the hero) had a good life throughout the film with a loving wife who was pregnant. This changes when the killer takes her life. The climax of Oedipus Rex is marked by recognition. Oedipus (the hero) finds out who is real parents are and that he is married to his mother.
The film seven fits perfectly in to Aristotles type of tragedies, which is a good man who on account of this error moves from good to bad fortune. This is good because it elicits pity and fear. To sum it up, Pity draws us to it – good man. Fear drives us away – bad fortune.
According to Aristotle there are three different responses to tragedy. They are 1- The purging theory (physical), which is a detox, cleanses you from your emotions and leaves full of pity and fear. 2- The purification theory (spiritual), which is your emotions strengthened and makes you feel strong. 3- The clarification Theory, which is a higher intellectual response.
As we can see Aristotles theories of story telling are still in use today and are hugely influential even though he was around in 355 BC. Which makes him a very important person to script writers today.
I Love………
The one thing that I love so much is some thing that has been in my life for longer than I can remember. She can not talk and sometimes she even ignores me. I do not mind as I think it is just a little bit of pay back for the things I did to her when I was younger, she put up with a lot from me and now that she is much older and weaker I think it is only fair that I do the same for her. In case you have not guessed by now I am talking about my pet cat she is fluffy, multicoloured and her name is Furball. When I was younger I use to take her and stand up on the table holding her in my hands lifting her up as high as my arms would reach, slighting twisting my hips and arms from side to side and singing to the theme tune of ‘The Lion King’, thinking I was making her a king. She did not quite like it but she never attempted to scratch or hiss at me. As soon as I put her down she ran far away from me but only soon to forgive me in a few hours. When she ran away from me I use to grab her tail and pulled her back to me very cruel I know now but she always forgave me and make I it up to her everyday. I remember days of praying and wishing she could talk. I was convinced she spoke English when no humans were around. There were so many days that I said “Furball please talk to me I know you can I promise I won’t tell anyone it will just be mine and your secret” ….. I waited and waited for a response but I never got one.
Even though as a child I was not the best friend to her at times but I did not know any better and she knew that. That is why anytime I was upset about something she would come in to my room and curl up beside me and with each stroke I instantly felt better. As I got older I began to understand what she didn’t like and with each day our friendship grew stronger. I remember the day I was about 11 years old and I was quite hyper and excited and ran in to the house and I saw her face look up at me with slight fear I stroked her and kept on running around I believe that was when she knew I had finally grown up.
Then came my teenage years and no matter what my ups and downs where or how my hormones were racing she was always there saying nothing and it was just what I needed she would purr and curl up to me as I cried over nothing. Anytime I came home from a school or a night out she would always race out to the drive to meet me say hello and prop her head up for a nice relaxing rub. Even sometimes as I turned the corner of my street I would see her racing threw bushes just to get to the drive way before me to greet me. Sometimes I even remember her greeting me with a mouse or a bird in her mouth. I think it is a little bit cruel but I know it is just in her nature.
Now that she is 15 years old that is 105 years in cat years. She is not as active anymore her coat is matted more and she sleeps a lot more. I don’t see her as often now because I am in college but every weekend that I am home she jumps up on top of me when I’m sitting on the couch and curls up beside me. Yes this is a little annoying I know but this is my time to let her curl up beside me and say nothing as she happily purrs and sleeps. Still every morning when I open the blind she is sitting on the windowsill with bright eyes and a BIG MEAOOOW or as I like to think HELLOOOOOOO!

News bulletin
Princess Diana’s death occurred on August 17th 1997, just past midnight at 12.10. This tragedy took place in France in the ‘Alma Tunnel’.
It has been believed that an army of paparazzi chasing an unfit driver was the cause of her death until now. According to exclusive information from numerous doctors, dealing with this case, discovered that Princess Diana was addicted to prescription drugs for sometime. Trevor Revs realised this statemeant today: “Working for Diana for so many years was a privilege and to say she was a drug addicted is wrong, many people take drugs for different reasons and to know if one is addicted is difficult to say especially when you don’t want to believe it, there was at least 30 paparazzi chasing us that night along with numerous events occurring so you can not pin the blame on thing”
A video realised shortly after her death showed paparazzi speeding down a motor way, you can clearly hear one of them shout ‘where chasing princess Diana this is so exciting’. We know this is true but can it along with an unfit driver be the only reason for this tragedy? Recent studies say no. Doctor Hamrock, who graduated from Oxford University and head of this investigation, discovered today that Diana was addicted to a prescription drug called ‘Rohlghpol’ and was prescribed for pain. He said “A lethal amount was found in her body which could have easily led to death”. Evidence shows that if the dosage of this pill is tripled it could lead to death, you don’t even need to overdose just triple your dosage. It affects you by speeding up your blood flow to the heart which can lead to a heart attack, which would be distracting to a drunk driver being chased by paparazzi!
There is no reason to believe that Diana did start tripling her dosage, in fact it was believed that she had just been purposed to by her lover. However suspicions have arose in a source who told me that they believe her drugs may have been tampered with. Which begs the questions, who would have access to her drugs? Or who would have the money to pay for someone to have access to her drugs? Diana was loved by nations but maybe not by everyone. It is known everyone that The Royal Family had a problem with her when she divorced her first husband Prince Charles. Could the news of a new proposal be enough to want to get rid of her once and for all? My source can assure me that dangerous sources could be linked to her death.
This new evidence has shocked and upset her children. Prince William said today “I loved my mother dearly as did the rest of the family. I do not believe that my mother was murdered or addicted to pills. I do believe that she should be left to rest in peace and I ask for my family’s privacy at this time.”
This evidence is impossible to deny and as it unfolds we see a darker side to what was originally perceived on the night of August 17th 1997
