Alexander Got An Itch in Egypt

When Alexander the Great took over Egypt he was said to have visited the Sphinx. This was not to worship it, he picked up stones and threw rocks that the sculptures face until the nose fell off! It caused an itch that he couldn't pull away until the statue had been partially destroyed.
