The announcement for the new iPhone 3GS handset was made at the company's annual developers conference in San Francisco. Apple claims iPhone 3GS would make common tasks, such as launching applications much faster than previous version. Another big addition is it's new capability to record 30fps VGA video with audio from within the camera app - even edit your videos right on the handset.

It's said the rush to launch iPhone 3GS was to tackle new competitor Palm Pre from gaining ground. The pricing of new 3GS seems targeted at Palm Pre: The iPhone 3GS will sell for $199 - 16GB version, and $299 - 32GB version. The existing iPhone 3G will now be available at a price of $99. This is $100 cheaper than Palm Pre's current price at $199. Feature wise the competition is heating up:

Nintendo has claimed to have sold more than 10 million units of the Wii Play in the United States since its release about two years ago. They attribute it's success the great collection of mini-games bundled alongwith the Wii remote control.

Wii Play

"Even if you believe people are buying Wii Play solely for the controller, that indicates that there are now more than 10 million people who have an extra Wii Remote controller in their homes," says Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo's executive VP of sales and marketing.

Nintendo quoted this milestone from the February sales figures for the video-game industry released this week by market researcher NPD Group. As of February, Nintendo has sold 19 million Wii consoles in the United States since release in November 2006. Nintendo plans to release it's next big model - the DSi - in the US by April this year.

With Android becoming an open source mobile OS, many impressive products are turning up from virtually unknown companies. One such product, which created a buzz in the CES 2009 was the Giinii Movit™ - a mobile internet / entertainment device.

With a screen size of 4.3”(7" in the works!) - 480 x 272 pixel touchscreen - Movit may pose a new competition to iPod Touch. The device uses Wi-Fi for connectivity and allows to browse the web and share content on top social networks like Facebook & MySpace. You can watch streaming videos (that are large enough to really see) and use the built-in video camera as a mini-web cam(iPod touch misses out here

We're keeping our ears wide open. There have been rumours already that Apple has been experimenting internally with large form tablet devices for years, but they feared users wouldn’t like the device. What's different now is the iTunes app store, which has thousands of games and other apps that are perfect fodder for a tablet. But now Techcrunch has some lead that there's definitely something brewing at Apple. Here's what TC said:

"We’ve got this from three independent sources close to Apple: expect a large screen iPod touch device to be released in the Fall of ‘09, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. Prototypes have been seen and handled by one of our sources, and Apple is talking to OEMs in Asia now about mass production

According to a report, Interphone is about to announce the results of their largest-ever study to investigate whether cellphones cause cancer next month.

Interphone researchers have analyzed the results gathered from studies on 6,400 tumors sampled from patients in 13 countries. If the final results mirror the preliminary ones, we'd need to seriously rethink about our mobile usage. Israeli researchers participating in Interphone found that people who use cellphones regularly are 50% more likely than non-users to develop brain tumors. They also reported a 40 percent increase in tumor risk in people who use cellphones for more than a decade; they found no risk for people who have used cellphones for less than 10 years
