Bears stealing childrens play equipment, those bastards!

Some people build swimming pools in their back yards. But outdoor pools in Alaska just won't work. Since this particular family lives on the outskirts of Anchorage, they decided to build a sturdy, colorful playground for their 3 and 4 year old sons, with smooth-stone gravel all around it to avoid knee scrapes and other injuries.

They finished building it on Saturday evening, and the following morning, as mom was about to wake up the boys and have them go out to play in their new play center, this is what she saw from the upstairs window:

China’s cyber warfare army is marching on, and India is suffering silently. Over the past one and a half years, officials said, China has mounted almost daily attacks on Indian computer networks, both government and private, showing its intent and capability.

The sustained assault almost coincides with the history of the present political disquiet between the two countries.

According to senior government officials, these attacks are not isolated incidents of something so generic or basic as "hacking" — they are far more sophisticated and complete — and there is a method behind the madness.

Publicly, senior government officials, when questioned, take refuge under the argument that "hacking" is a routine activity and happens from many areas around the world. But privately, they acknowledge that the cyber warfare threat from China is more real than from other countries.

The core of the assault is that the Chinese are constantly scanning and mapping India’s official networks. This gives them a very good idea of not only the content but also of how to disable the networks or distract them during a conflict.

Awesome stuff, war that doesn't involve people dying. Still, if China and India decide to tear at each others throats the world will suck just a little bit more.

Linux is Unix in a new Package?

May 3rd 2008 07:14
Troubled software maker SCO's chief executive has claimed the Linux operating system includes Unix source code, during a court case in which Novell is suing SCO for royalties on Unix.

In the hearing, which concludes on Friday, SCO chief executive Darl McBride made claims--including that "Linux is a copy of Unix"--which are directly contradicted by the open-source community and apparently run counter to other SCO testimony, according to trial watchers, including Ars Technica.

So much for right versus left. Mr Brooks also finds that extremists of both sides are happier than moderates. Some 35% of those who call themselves “extremely liberal” say they are very happy, against only 22% of ordinary liberals. For conservatives, the gap is smaller: 48% to 43%. Extremists are happy, Mr Brooks reckons, because they are certain they are right. Alas, this often leads them to conclude that the other side is not merely wrong, but evil. Some two-thirds of America's far left and half of the far right say they dislike not only the other side's ideas, but also the people who hold them.

Linux is Begging You To Install It

The image kind of says it all, 'Please, install me on as many computers as possible! See how awesome I am? I really am!'.

To everyone who bought the 2G iPhone, or worse, imported it from the US: Sucker.

When the 3G iPhone is introduced this summer, AT&T, the exclusive U.S. iPhone sales partner with Apple, will cut the price by as much as $200, according to a person familiar with the strategy.

Continuing with our post apocalyptic theme it seems that we now have the sentinels from 'The Matrix' to worry about:

What worries me about it is that with the race so close between Obama and Clinton

It's not really close, Obama is going to win unless Clinton plays dirty.

Oh you're starting to sound like the folks who visit digg/reddit.

It's all 'evil msm' this or that and next thing you know the stop story is about an awkwardly posed cat.

I'd go except it's damn close to my exams and damn far away.

"how much does the average orbler make a year..."

Depends on the damn currency conversions.

I hate how the US economy is tanking, the dollar values are almost on the level... a hundred dollars six moths ago just doesn't carry the same value anymore.

Thank you GWB, you ruined my life and nicked a good $30 out of my already meagre pay.

I find it interesting that christians have become the bad guys considering hollywood likes to pick on minority group. Considering the GWB version of Christianity is so fringe and isolated maybe hollywood can actually afford to attack it and get away with it?

But like you say, most people would be smart enough and distinguish reality from fiction.

I would just like to add though that Christians are by default regarded as peaceful and the versions of them potrayed in Hollywood movies are obviously of the fundamentalist type. This doesn't apply to actual minority groups who by default are shown as extremist.

Orble isn't large enough to worry about gaming, when it is and the top ten/twenty list means lots of traffic (in the thousands) it may start being an issue.

on Are the recent gay reforms enough?

eh.... to me, marriage has nothing to do with religion - but all the major religions have been sure to put their stamp on marriage.

Marriage has different meanings in different religions.

McCain was really burned by the relentless George Bush led assault against him during the 2000 primaries when they were both trying to be the Republican nominee.

If McCain really is looking for a clean campaign he probably wants to run against Obama who is acting on the same principles.

Legalising prostitution doesn't change anything, the abuse they recieve doesn't statistically drop.
