Against The Norm-Personal Diary

After months of soul searching, I've finally decided to make a big change in my life. This decision will definitely affect my entire life in so many aspects. Here on Orble, for example, it will mean less writing. I've decided to go from the day shift to the graveyard shift. I just completed my third week, and it has been one hell of a roller-coaster ride.
Going against my own natural order is taking a toll, but I do seem to be adjusting rather nicely. I only had a couple of days where I didn't get enough sleep. This happened quite a few times when I was on days, too!
So far I haven't fallen into the eating at night factor, where graveyard workers consume more food and gain weight rapidly. I'll only eat a fruit and a small meal, and still do most eating during the day. Other workers on the graveyard shift, eat many meals and have gained weight since they were on that shift, so I noticed.
Off course my natural rhythm has gone berserk, but my stress level has dropped to no end. Working nights in my line of work is less stressful, which may be a bigger payoff in the long run.
I may nap when I get home, but I seem to be able to doze sometime after 1 pm. I usually get between 5-7 hours, give or take, which is almost the same as when I was on the day shift.
Although it may be a small compensation, I get extra pay working nights. With my seniority, I can always bid back to days.
From time to time, I will write about working the graveyard shift and some advice on coping. I have gone to sites that address this issue and hopefully will write about them. I know that I am not the only graveyard shift worker in the world and many have trouble adjusting which can be detrimental to their life and health. This topic may appear in any of my other blogs.
