AFL - it's just my opinion...

... is the AFL becoming an unmanageable monster?
16 teams across the continent, and talk of creating a new Tasmanian team, a new QLD team and yet poor old authentic original Melbourne can barely drag its supporters to the grounds.
I'm not a Melbourne supporter, but I am an AFL fan of some 30 yrs and while "good ol' Collingwood' reign supreme in my one-eyed view, I almost caved in and was tempted to offer my marketing services to Jimmie to help bring the Demons back from the brink.
I am almost sorely tempted to make a public outcry at the lack of support shown by the team faithful. Let's not lose the one mainstay team that were part of the original VFL... Melbourne isn't just the Demons, and the Red and the Blue. The team represents the CITY of our state, just as the Sydney Swans who are the morphed South Melbourne now are the CITY representatives in NSW. We have the Adelaide Crows, the Brisbane Lions (yet another morphed team)... so I say, "Support Melbourne..."
That's coming from a died in the wool Collingwood fan...
Speaking of which... it is just my opinion - BUT the whole Didak and Shaw debacle is an embarrassing slap in the face for the die-hards amongst the Pies fans.
The biggest talk is that the guys weren't suspended for drinking during the season.
But they were slapped with a massive penalty for LYING...
Like, hello????
Mixed messages, Eddie.
Lying is wrong - especially to the extent reported to have occurred (direct to Eddie's face, no less) - and yes the pathetic and idiotic efforts of Didak and Shaw should be up for punishment. However shutting the gate after the horse bolts is benign.
Do we want Didak on the team still???
YES!
He is a bl**dy great player - what he needs is sharp disciplinary action - he must attend a drink driving offenders course, maybe a visit to the mortuary might shake him up a bit. He ought to be given a stint in an anger management course too, to given him skills in managing his attitude.
Shaw - keep him. No question.
BUT DO NOT BRING BEN COUSINS INTO THE TEAM - THAT VERY IDEA DISGUSTS ME.
What are we? A team of undisciplined louts?
God forbid...
I honestly think I will become a Melbourne Supporter if Ben Cousins sets foot on sacred Pies soil.
And don't get me started on Barry Hall...
Once a thug, always a thug. He has the umpires too scared to make a move on him now for fear they will be reprimanded for reprimanding him.
What's worse is hearing football commentators claim, "It's just Barry, that's how he is".
He has demonstrated several times just what a violent beast he is, and he does NOT deserve to remain a player.
His behaviour shows what an aggressive lout he is, and he has been given far too much leniency, even in the face of the suspensions he received for smacking my good old Collingwood players...
I love my football.
LOVE IT.
It is far and beyond one of the most athletic, highly skilled and tactical games on the planet and I will watch it till I am 90 ... with my last breath wheezing out of my chest...
BUT I won't tolerate the BS that allows Ben Cousins and other louts to poison the good reputation of the game... a game that has slowly become tainted ever since the late 80s when heavy commercialisation was deemed the only way to resurrect it and make it a viable career for the players and a huge business interest for the big guns.
Bring back honest clean footy the way it was in the days of Peter Daicos... what a legend!
