These people had it made. They had perfect fellowship with God. They had access to all the food sources in the Garden of Eden. The only restriction was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Yes, God had to know where thier allegiance stood. God wasn't interested in having a pair of puppets whose strings he could pull. That wouldn't be real love but just dictatorship.
