Actors-Extras-Models wanted... yeh, right.

It happened to me... so I know it could have happened or is about to happen to you...
The fact that it happened to me - that I was either so naive or so gullible that I fell for it - really pi55es me off.
While searching the national job website seek.com.au, I chanced upon an ad that screamed "Help!"
This particular agency whose name shall remain anonymous (for now) advertise regularly, claiming to need "fresh faces" for their upcoming work.
Well, you can imagine that it appeals to lots of people. For me, it is the appeal of doing extras work again. I did it successfully for 4 years over a decade ago before I moved interstate.
So, when I saw the ad, and had some spare time available, I figured it would be a great way to dip my toe back in the water.
My resume was pretty impressive as an extra - several long running series as an non-speaking regular on well known shows. A couple of ads, and a few movies.
All good.
It stung a bit to have to pay over $100 to have the agency set up a webpage for me. It was also not nice to know I would have to shell out a small monthly fee just to be listed and considered.
Thing is, when I applied and was 'successful', it was at a time when the agency posted a job claiming to "urgently" need new faces for LOADS of work.
Now, was I naive to presume that this meant I would be inundated with offers and opportunities to have my profile put forward, so that the initial upfront fee would be recovered?
Was I wrong to presume that this agency alleging to have so much work it needed NEW faces would have me placed in an extras role or two given my experience and their need for fresh blood, ahh, faces?
Perhaps...
OR would you dare to agree with me that it is more a case of FALSE ADVERTISING?
I am dead-set convinced it is false advertising.
After 3 weeks I heard not a peep and I refused to send in my direct debit details so that the agency could start billing me monthly for a service they weren't providing.
I note time and again this agency places ad after ad on seek.com.au claiming to need 'fresh faces'...
yet I am certain that, like me, many others would be disappointed with the BS and would feel financially ripped off because of it.
Where does one turn in these cases?
To the Department of Fair Trading?
You have to be kidding me, right?
Have you ever had to deal with a government department when you are a victim of a wrong doing...?
Don't waste your time.
If you have had a similar experience to me in Australia and believe as I do that this agency should be questioned and required to implement a refund policy, then comment away!!!
I want to see justice!!!
I want my money back!!!

What the... Blog?
I'm reluctant to post company or business names as I don't want to find myself facing a legal situation for naming and shaming... others who are familiar with my story will know it can only be one of a few agencies that place ads on the job board.
Cheers,
Terri
