About Relationships on the island

The other day my friends and I were having a discussion about relationships on the island, the discussion was triggered by the fact that we happened to observe a couple at a popular night spot who were having a major tiff. Suffice to say, it did not end well and left us all wondering what the hell just happened. Anyway, after the whole thing was over we began to wonder how one partner could utter such words of disgust to their loved one in public (not that their partner actually showed that they cared) and this obviously set our minds racing.
Many people come to the island for a variety of reasons and it seems that you can classify them into distinct categories as far as love is concerned. There are those who come with their loved ones from wherever and this group is normally very focused on the reasons why there are on the island. Then there are those that arrive on the island hoping to find love and lastly there are those who just want a good time and get laid at any possible opportunity. The problem for most people is that if you are looking for love on the island, you will probably end up with someone simply looking for a good time and it can only end in tears. Everyone on island has a story to tell and because it is a society that is heavily populated by expatriates, the chances for a lasting commitment are few and far between.
In the above case it seemed as if one partner was expecting more out of the relationship, whereas the other partner had had their "good" time and wanted to move on to the next good time. But I suppose that's life anywhere in the world, but it becomes kind of pronounced on the island because it is such a small place...
