Leonardo Dicaprio-Top 3

July 12th 2011 06:05
Leonardo Wilhelm Dicaprio, has proved out to be one of the best and most promising actors of his generation.Needless to say, most of his movies leave a long lasting impression and a thought provoking insight. Lets take a look at his top block-busters:

1. THE DEPARTED-
World famous director Martin Scorsese brings out a thriller in this movie which deals with two moles in two entirely different organisations.Undercover agent Billy Costigan(Leonardo Dicaprio) gains the confidence of the Irish mafia while his sole motive is to infiltrate the mob syndicate while Colin Sullivan(Matt Damon), a hardened criminal has gained the confidence of state police where his motive is to be an informer for the syndicate. Each man rises to power and becomes engaged in their double life, when finally it becomes clear to the police and gangsters there is a mole amidst them and each one tries to uncover the identity of the other in order to protect themselves. This movie is sure to leave your heart pounding and is a must-watch movie!

2.SHUTTER ISLAND-
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Dicaprio team up for the fourth time to make this scorcher.Federal Marshal Teddy Daniels(Leonardo Dicaprio) and his new partner Chuck Aule travel to Shutter Island to investigate the dissapearence of a patient.Teddy is still traumatised by his war experience and by the loss of his wife and daughter. When it occurs to him that his investigation is being hindered by the authorities and there is no route to escape, he is driven to unravel the secret of the eerie place and begins to suspect himself, the authority and also his own partner. But little does he know what lies ahead and most importantly his dual identity. An enthralling movie to be precise which i guarantee would baffle you in it’s twisted ending.

3.BLOOD DIAMOND-
Edward Zwik set this film during the bitter time of civil war in Sierra Leone. Danny Archer(Leonardo Dicaprio),a diamond smuggler looking for a big score and Soloman Vandy, a fishererman, find their fates forever interwined as they set on a quest to obtain a rare and coveted diamond. Archer promises Vandy to locate his estranged family in return for the coveted diamond hidden by Vandy when they get caught in the bloody civil war and things take a completely different turn. This film is renowed for it’s plot, acting as well as the message it conveys. Do make sure to watch this movie..

Mystic River-truely mystic

July 11th 2011 12:38

Mystic River is Clint Eastwood's directed movie and is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane. This movie achieves the full goal of the gloominess of tragedy and it does so in a manner where you are bound to agree with the fact that Mystic River is an epitome of exquisite cinematography.Three boys Dave Boyle, Jimmy Markum and Sean Devine are engaged it playing hockey when a black sedan pulls up and a somber figure-presumably a police inspector walks out and drives away with Dave. That's when the weaving of the plot really begins. The next scene dwells in the shadowy nondescript blue-collar neighborhood where all three of them have been settled into ordinary lives.Sean(Kevin Bacon) works with the Massachusetts State Police,Jimmy(Sean Penn) runs a small grocery store, and Dave(Tim Robbins) also lives in the same neighbourhood though it's unclear as to what his real occupation was.In the backdrop we get to know that during the days that succeeded Dave's abduction,he remained in the hands of some notorious prostitute.Hence can the violation of innocence be compromised? Apparently not. In the meantime Jimmy's daughter, Katie has been found brutally murdured in a park and the suspicion falls on her boyfriend since the two families had been sharing a hardened relation with each other. The case eventually falls in the hands of Sean. But the camera also drifts towards Dave as he had seen Jimmy's daughter the previous night in a bar and he had come home drenched in blood after having strangulated someone to death which he doesn't clearly say to his wife, Celeste (Marcia Gay Harden). A rapid role of dire fate starts from that point and Dave's wife strangely begins to think that her husband had murdered Katie. When she reveals her suspicion to Jimmy fates of the three again begin to be implausibly entangled and though Sean is embroiled in the case, Jimmy takes the law into his own desperate hands and his grief turns into vengence. Eventually in the banks of the Mystic River a melodrama takes place which becomes a pursuit of sadness. At the starkest, the masterly cinematography of Clint Eastwood along with Oscar winning perfomance of Sean Penn gives this movie a tremendous gravity and is sure to live up to your expectations.
