A Whole New World!

Ok, so I'm 3 days in to the amazing white world of Helsinki, Finland! After a whole another 11 hours on a plane and then having to go back in time 9 hours (time difference), it makes me realise how far away from home I am. All these people I have met from all over Europe said there plane trip was like 2 hours....WHAT? That's like me going to Sydney, not another freakin country!
When I stepped foot off the plane, I thought to myself, "What have I got myself into?" It is freezing, averaging around -15 and the snow is as thick as a Britney's Spears head! My first night was tough. I was tired, it gets dark at like 3pm (which is extremely depressing) and my room was and still is trashed with rubbish! I still don't know why. Aino, a local here picked me up from the airport and took great care of me to get home, even bringing me some local Finnish delicacy foods! My housemate is Italian and extremely nice but doesn't speak much english. We had our orientation day on Friday for about 300 exchange students. It is so cool to meet people from all over the world in the one location; all speaking different languages. I have met some Finnish people (obviously), Italian, Hungarian, Portugese, German, Swedish, American and other Aussies from good 'ole Tasmania. I keep saying that this temperature must be normal for them, surely!! I have had so many conversations about different mannerisms, languages, voting systems, currencies and weather already - it's really fascinating! The Finnish people are quite nice - most of them speak English but I have been trying to learn Finnish as well, in respect but it's very hard. They say that this is the most snow they have had in 30 years!!
It's an extremely pretty city. Lots of old and flat buildings but the snow is just amazing. Although, I can't feel my fingers when I'm walking around, it is all worth the experience. You can view my photos on my Facebook page. Also, it is not as expensive as I thought but in saying that, I haven't had to buy any alcohol yet! Apparently I am the baby of the group because most of the guys are over 20 but I don't mind - kinda used to it! Well, I think I'm still jet-lagged so if I have missed anything, I will fill you in soon. But for now, Hyvää yötä
