Lauding Politicians
November 18th 2006 02:45
One of the things that really peeves me is how "ordinary" people bow and scrape to politicians. Now don't get me wrong, I'd be the first to line up to say that they need to be treated with dignity and respect, but I think organisations and folk go overboard, in an ingratiating sort of way.
It is no suprise that some poltiicians eventuallybelieve their own publicity. And seem to think that they are legends in their own lunchtime. Why else would politicians do what they do? I mean, just look at the papers for the week ending November 17th, 2006, and see what politicians think they can get away with?
A one time premier of Queensland did all sorts of strange things and I have always believe dit was just this very point. He was a "doer" and found it easy to do things himself that go through proper procedures. Only a few poltiicains seem to behave this way, but it is still too many, as people believe that polticiains are infallible. As if they aren't human, and when they do fail, ithere is disbelief. The reality is that pollies are human, with the same frailties as the man or woman in the street. Somehow though they think they won't get caught, or that the good they have been doing for the community somehow negates their wrong doing.
(Incidentally I didn't support the long time premier and his action, but I think I have some understanding of how it came to be.
