A Transformation taking a Holiday

January 28th 2013 21:47
I'm somehow off my game when it comes to writing. Mornings have a distinct flow to them.....Usually: 1st cup of coffee, uncover bird, simple breakfast while talking with the bird (Apollo). To the computer and check email, then absorb self in reading the National Actholic Reporter on-line. More bird play......work needed to be complete for the Franciscan Order and "Jepordy."

A couple of weeks ago, we dog sat for a friend of ours. There are two Yokies about 4 years old and we occasionally keep them here for a week end. This time the female was here without her companion who was recovering from pancreatitis. Apollo immediately exhibited crazyness by picking at his feathers. He did quite a job under his wings. Once doggies were in their own home, I could address plucking Apollo. Natural sprays have helped him and he is staying away from his wings. He would still rather have my undivided attention during all hours of waking!

The transformative joy that I have experienced these last couple of weeks has been wonderful. The small and not federally recognized tribe, has made me a member (my heritage is difficult to trace). I am now working with them on grants and Federal recognition.

Additionally, I have recently been introduced to an inmate in another state (by letter). He is inprison for conspiricy to murder someone. During his 15 plus years in prison, he has become interested in Francis of Assisi as well as Islam. He has wanted some affilitation with a Franciscan community for many years and no one would accept. We Servant Franciscans have adopted "J" as an aspiring associate and I will be his primary contact. I doubt there are other Franciscan communities doing anything similar. Additionally, I am exploring the reasons that all prisoners who are Muslim do not have access to an Imam.

God certainly does work in wonderous and mysterious ways. When I listen to God and respond affirmatively, I find that I am soon transformed into a more open and accepting person.....ready to find difference positive and that the world does not have to be made in my image and likeness.

Transformation doesn't happen unless we open ourselves to the wonders of growth, change, new interests, a whole variety of people and as many new experiences.

This is possible for all of us. Once it begins.....hold on to your hats for a learning experience of your lives.
