A SPADE IS A SPADE

January 3rd 2007 18:38
A SPADE IS A SPADE
I am not taking any credit for this one. Michael Coren wrote the original article in the Toronto Sun on Dec. 9, 2006 and I think he happens to be right. The premise is calling a spade a spade and to hell with our politically correct nonsense.
We used to have whores. Prostitutes. Hookers. Tarts. Everyone knew what they were and what they did, Today, we are supposed to call them 'sex trade workers'. I guess this is to encompass the topless massage parlour workers. The ‘escorts' who are hired as dates but what they do on their own time is nobodies business. Give me a break. They are all of the same mold.

Mr. Coren writes, "Strippers are now called "exotic dancers." But they're not. They're strippers. And "Johns" are fornicators. We use the real, genuine descriptions not to degrade women who sell their bodies and remove their clothes for money but to degrade and denounce the professions themselves. A prostitute may or may not be a good and fine woman but she is behaving in a manner that is certainly not good and fine." And he's absolutely right. He goes on to say, "We wouldn't, for example, suddenly call a torturer a Pain Operative or describe a pimp as a Sex Enabler." I don't know how anyone could argue this logic. (I'm sure I'll find out though)
Most telling is his statement, "If anyone thinks words don't really matter they're not only foolish but clearly wouldn't object to having their mother called a filthy name." Sorry, but call my wife, mother, grandmother, sister or daughter a whore or prostitute and you'd better be prepared to meet your maker. You can take that to the bank.
Some time ago, I heard on TV an interviewer asking a black man why they kept changing their descriptions. They used to be ‘coloured' and then became black. Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud. Geez. They then went to Afro-Americans and today want to be African-Americans. Most of them couldn't find Africa on a map, but ignore that for now. The interviewee said they keep changing their name just to screw up the white man. You have to admire the humour there. Once we're up to date and think we have it down, they'll change their ‘name' again.

Having said that, I guess I'm a bigot. I've been called worse so I guess I can live with it.
Mr. Coren goes on to state, "Marriage is not living together and a common-law marriage may be common but it's not a marriage. It goes without saying, of course, that while homosexual couples may be happy and loving, they can never be married in spite of what politicians and legal zealots try to tell us." Canada has legalized homosexual ‘marriages' and despite what the majority of us think, our politicians still vote in favour of it. Once you put your nose in the trough it seems real easy to ignore those who put you into office.
Mr. Coren writes, "If you tell lies you're a liar. If you steal you're a thief. If you betray your spouse you're an adulterer. If you use drugs for fun you're pathetic. If you believe in unjust wars you're a coward and a bully. If you support abortion you believe in killing unborn children."
It's hard to argue with logic like that.

It always amazes me how people think they can excuse anything wrong by renaming it to sound better. It only works for a select few (mostly politicians and other celbrities) and only convinces those who either agree with the behavior or idolize the perpetrator. The rest of us either ignore the rhetorical titles or turn away in disgust. Well said as always!

A bad guy by any other name still stinks!

SL, Don, when I read this article I knew I'd have to blog it. We have become so politically correct that we can't tie our shoes without fear of offending someone, somewhere. It's time the pendulum started to swing the other way.

Let's push real hard, and maybe the pendulum will at least budge. It's a start!

what's up with that? good grief! so rapists should not be considered so either right? like saying instead that they females were assulted with a friendly weapon? or murders 'unlicensed executioners' or theives 'borrowers'--

come on now, has common sense truly left this world?

A rapist is a rapist and a thief is a thief. Our PC world has gone overboard in trying to dress up what we call people in order not to offend them. It's nuts.
