"A Secret Garden!!"

May 29th 2007 21:33
we have almost got all our spring yard clean up done and it is finally starting to look pretty around here. When we moved in, right next to the steps up to the back, was this ugly, blank garden. i hated that thing. no matter what i did [which was very little for the longest time] it looked blank and ugly. This year, it finally looks pretty. I shared a picture of it a few days ago. it was very over grown in the picture, but now it's all cleaned out. Kaitlyn LOVES it and asked if it could be her secret garden. i told her yes. and we'd set one up for Krytsina too Kaitlyn worked sooo hard helping me with the yard and gardens, taht when i went out for my monthly weigh in, i snuck and picked her up flowers, bulbs, and some other things for her garden. she calls it her "Secret Garden." i came home and showed her and you should have seen her excitement.

dad [hubby] and i spent the day shopping. i still had puppy money. since Kaitlyn said she'd rather fix up the house and yard from winter instead of a float trip, i did what i usualy do when i get extra cash, i got stuff for around our home. for outdoors mostly. i did also buy a couple new CD's. great crafting and playing card CD'S. Mariah Carry [whatever] and The Wreckers". i found this cute little screen thing that goes right on your patio umrella to keep the misquitoes out. oh, and June bugs. my absolutely, makes me scream bugs. OOOHHHHH!!! we have a screened room and even a ahhh, what do you call them?? Those outdoor like rooms taht zip shut. anyway, i can't set them up easily here because we get wicked, but wondeful wind living on this hill. my furniture and umbrella set on my deck, where the house will cblock it.
i got two table top tiki ligghts for under the screen. four tiki's to go around that deck, and four tiki's for the pool deck. we also have tiki's from last year. i LOVE sitting out at night in the flicker of a candle light, playing cards, talking about life. i LOVE laying on a floaty in the pool at midnight with the flicker of light, watching a million stars, looking for shooting stars, and day dreaming about life. "Or would taht be "Night Dreaming!"

i got some peel and stick lanolium sqaures for the foyer. they look like real ceramics. i do like the real stuff to, but this is such a small area, i just don't care to fool with it. it's looks beautiful anyhow. i'm just cheap when it comes to certain things. i'd rather spend money on a trip or something instead. and to me, this looks beautiful. so i just don't care.
i got new paint for the pool deck. it needs a paint job BADLY. just the floor. the rest stood up well. got the dogs treats and toys. lets see...i think thats it. i was down to about a hundred in puppy money, and then we cmae home to our income tax. so now i can get a little more outdoor stuff. i have to realy think. what do we need to re-do or such?
oh, and i got these cute mailbox cover thingies that have flowers and say welcome. i've been wanting one forever but they where always $15-$20 and thats another thing i'm "Too Cheap" to spend money on. i always figured i could paint it myself for free. well, today when we stopped at dolar general, i found some just like the expensive ones, for $1,50!!! can you believe it!! i'm such a bargain shopper. i found my deck paint and it's <artha Stewart even, at big lots, regular &12.99 for just $8 bucks. it was the perfect redish burgundy i wnated too. so all my wood furniture will be getting a painting too. i LOVE when you find what you need soo cheap. you just get more of the things you need.
well i'm off to gte outside and do some gardening.

Tammy,

Sounds fabulous. I've never been a garden type of person, but since moving into my own place (instead of renting), I'm constantly think of things I can do in the backyard to make it more tranquil and inviting.

Tammy -

Just as spring was approaching, I was a bit saddened to realize that yet another year would go by without my garden being planted... but nearing the end of spring? Oh, man, am I glad I don't have a garden to add to my list of things to tend to! I'm sure it'd be tranquil for me and I know I'd love the beauty and freshness of it... but there's no way I'd be able to give it the attention it needs right now!

I love reading about how you fix up your place. For the moment, my hands are a bit tied, so I enjoy the opportunity to live vicariously through your home improvements! *LOL*

*hugs*

Kylie, "congrats on not being in a rental!!!" i hated having a rental. having to ask if you wnated to paint and only getting certain shades of color, even not being allowed to put nails in the wall. i did it anyway! <grins>
hope you find lots of great things you love doing there!!garening for me as an awesome feeling, but it does fade, and it's now just about faded. it only does this after you have grown alll your plants and then they are needed to be put into the ground. i sooo over did it on how much i planted. <grins> i didn't think they'd all survive. so i guess my growing abilities have imporved. i'll plant less next year. <smiles>
Have fun!! Tammy

Wendi, i sooo am gardened out now. i LOVE planting the seeds, filling the plants with dirt, writing out their little tags, i even usualy like planting them. atleast for awhile. i did way better growing them this year then last. last year i killed some of them or they just didn'tpop up, so this year i probably trippled what i planted, counting for the ones that wouldn't survive. well 90% prolly survived. we've been planting and planting and planting and we're still not done. the rest may die cause i'm planted out,.i had fun, now i'm done. what grows and produces, will grow and produce. Charlie planted a long row of tomatoes today. i already had about three rows planted. we're going to have wayyy to many. <grins> but it's better then not enough. i'll just put a sign up and sell them half price, compaired to everyone else. <shrugs>
we've cleaned out all our beds pretty much. maybe a coule left. i'm done for awhile. time to rest, do other things.
