A realization on Day 1
June 2nd 2009 15:41
So yesterday was the first day for us to start working out and trying to eat better. The latter of the two being the more difficult for the both of us. I'm the type of person who thinks that if I work out that day I can eat whatever I want and be ok. We all know that is not the right way to think but none the less I rationalize my way into doing so.
My wife takes the opposite approach to it. She will starve herself even when she works out. And it kills me to see her do that because if there is anything I have learned it is that eating less does not necessariy mean losing weight.
I don't really see the working out part of this to be a major problem for us. Granted we are not in very good shape right now so, at least on my part the workouts will be fairly simple and easy until I can build up my endurance. And my wife always seems to have something up her sleeve to get us to be more active, whether is playing softball or going for a hike. Therefore, we have to figure something out to improve our diets.
In the past I did very well to increase my metabolism by eating about six meals a day, one every 2 and a half to 3 and a half hours. I intend to do this again and my wife has agreed to do the same after protesting for years that I did not know what I was talking about. I'm glad that I'll get to show her I was right all along.
Anyway, in an attempt to make this easier on us I'm going to buy a bunch of protein shakes and bars to help get us through the day. My thought process being that if we have those to munch on during our snack/meal times it will cut down on the amount of decisions we are forced to make, when it comes to what we want to eat over the course of the days and weeks.
Overall, day one was a start but needs to be improved upon. I'm sure we can do it and I'm hoping that my writing in this blog as often as possible will help to keep me honest. So, with that. . . .day two begins.
