Ahh, this's how computer games should be

Well a good morning to you all, and a happy birthday to anyone who has a birthday today. I don’t know that I know anyone that has a birthday today but I’m sure someone will.
To ease myself into this blogging game I thought I’d start off with a quick article/plug about an online game that I started playing a while ago called The Damned Isle. This is an MMORPG (Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Game) that has harkened back to my early days with computers and the games you played on them. You know the Spectrum, BBC Micro etc al. No memory to speak of, no hard disk, no special graphics so all developers had to go on was playability of the game.
The Damned Isle for me has this playability in abundance. Simple to get into (ok, the forum help could be a little more informative – but then again I haven’t added any either) and just start playing. The only downside to the game is also (from the developers point of view) one of the clever bits about this game; you are action limited (60 actions) on a daily basis and to get more turns you need to spend money. BUT, and here is another clever bit; it really isn’t that expensive to buy into the extra actions – ok, if you’re a 10 year old then yeah maybe it is still expensive; but in truth, I’m not sure what the demographics on this game would be – I can’t help but think that although there will be younger teens playing that it is probably older, sorry more mature **cough**, people playing it.
So, if you have limited time to play, then the limited actions will probably be just enough for you do some moves, beat up some monsters, explore caves, deserts, mountains, whatever takes your fancy as you are walking out the door; whereas if you have more time on your hands then buying into the game and spending a little of your hard earned money on ‘joining’ will double your actions per day; or buying boosters for up to 250 actions per boost will let you go mapping happy and do as much as you want to, when you want to.
In my opinion (I won’t say humble, I don’t do humble well) this is a great little time filler and well worth checking out, whether you are going to play for free or actually spend money.
AND, if you are thinking of setting up some sort of online game yourself, I would definitely come and see “The Damned Isle” – if you don’t get some good ideas on playability, ease of use, and pricing policy, then I’d be surprised.
I look forward to meeting in the game sometime.
